my heart cries when he said, canada and thailand is his first country for miss universe... as a filipino i think, who would not want to design for your own country??? but i think he wasnt chosen as he was not that famous enough :( ... i think a gown is a great gown if it fits you and have these impact regardless of who have created it, that is why i admired catriona so well that she insisted to have her team do the work... mark tumang is not a known then, but catriona believes in him and i think every designer deserves every catriona who would support u all the way. i hope rian would do also philippine gown for the future... he deserve the spot ... calling mup!!!! or miss world philippines!!!! lots of unknown great filipino designer there that deserve the spot!!!!

Glad that you still have strong and friendly connection with your Filipino designer. I think if Ms Canada org that time gave him enough time then he could have altered the gown to make it more pageant-ready. Love this video, because its an eye opener to everyone. The sacrifice of our designers that lend their talent and gowns for free. Even shouldered their plane ticket just to deliver the gown without getting any in return. This is really something to shade light on.

I remember the days when Philippine representatives are also only told what to wear by the National Director until Pia fought hard insisting to wear a Filipino-designed gown in the finals, with the support of all the Filipino fans. I can imagine how difficult it would be for Canadian representatives to do the same.

This is the first time am seeing this video but it’s sad that it did not seem to make as much impact 7 months ago as it is doing now. It was great how Siera was promoting him back then and that their unfortunate experiences brought them together. This young artist is talented, humble and does not deserve such horrible treatment. I hope this matter about MU gowns will have a general ruling from MU Org. so things can be put in paper, in written agreement, and in accordance to the guidelines of MU Org. I hope matters will be more organized next MU competition. I wish National Directors will coordinate ways for Fashion Designers to receive some percentage of payment so that the expenses for materials, textile, and shipping fees can be covered. Making a gown is basically a collaborative effort between a designer and the girl. The material to be used, the color, the fit and the like. No matter how good the designer if they haven't had a face to face interaction, then that's going to be really hard. So unfortunate that Siera didn't even had her fitting.
