Sierra Designs Meteor 3000 Review - Will's World

Sierra Designs have been kind enough to modify their popular Meteor tent to suit the kinds of conditions (rough conditions) we tend to get in the UK, upping the flysheet's hydrostatic head from 1800mm to 3000mm. Not only that, but they've also swapped in a bunch of sustainable materials as well.
All that, and it comes with a rather attractive price tag as well.

I have this tent, purchased after selling my terra nova ultra voyager. Put simply, it's not in the realms of Hillebergs etc however as it's 1/3 price, you get what you pay for and you really wouldn't be disappointed with this tent - it's light, extremely roomy and will comfortably be a 3 season tent as Will says. Need to get some extra guy lines and y stakes though. Considerably better as an all round offering than many more famous brands IMO.

I have a feeling americans livign in the northwest (Washington or Oregon) get roughly the same type of weather we get here in Western/Northern Europe (mild + lots of rain) so this might be why it's designed so appropriately

Great video. Unfortunately I recently purchase the meteor 3000 3p tent and found out the weight is actually 2.77kg rather than the advertised 2.4Kg. I was informed that sierra designs have changed their pole manufacturer and this has added the extra weight. I'm surprised that they are still advertising it at the incorrect weight given they now know its incorrect.

Just over a year after my previous comment, and I have purchased and used thins tent a handful of times, including in Dartmoor (the 3P version). It is a cracking tent, affordable, roomy and pretty light (2.5kgs) for the volume. If you pitch it on your own it can get kinda faffy (again, the 3P fly is quite large), but once set up it's solid; if you anticipate dodgy weather take extra guy lines and pegs (maybe some Delta pegs). You can sort of hack a footprint and fly pitch if the weather's very wet, and then build up the inner once youre sheltered from the rain, but it takes some practice.

Hi. Great video! I'm wondering, comparred to the nemo hornet 2p, which is somewhat lighter, what are the avantages of the Sierra? I'm looking for at good hiking tent for two people and I have a little difficult time figuring out which one to pick. I would like to balance weight vs. space

Hi, we actually have also reviewed the Hornet on our site. Here's the link: outdoorsmagic.com/article/nemo-hornet-2p-tent-review/ I'd say the SD Meteor is made of hardier materials and it's sturdier - but, as you know, it is also a fair bit heavier. The porches on the SD are bigger too. If I was expecting wet and wild weather, I'd probably want to be in the SD. On the flipside, if I was hiking somewhere fairly dry and warm, I think I'd want to the Nemo. Hope that helps! Will

As you have to put up the inner tent first, my concern is when it is raining this will get too wet? Other tents I am looking at you put up the outer tent first. I am looking for a tent for wild camping for 2 people to take my daughter on short camping trips. Any advice please.
