Neat video, Mike! It's too bad 2 is being "retired". That was one of my favorite engines at the NCRy.

Thanks Mike! I figured I had to go out to see her before she goes to sleep, this was a great day to do it. She'll only be retired until the Steam crew catches up on other projects. Robert Dollar #3 is apart for her 5-year inspection, and Clover Valley #4 is down for its annual inspection, so rather than have all of the steamers down at the same time, they're going to postpone returning the #2 to service for a while. She'll be back someday, likely before the next Steamfest.

I wouldn't bee too surprised to see the #2 still out and about early next season

You might wanna do more photographing of the NCRY because they'll be packing not too far in the future. CalTrain and UP want to open the SP side of the canyon to freight and commuter traffic in order to reduce the congestion of the WP side of the canyon.

Not sure exactly what sources are making you think that is completely and utterly true, but it is not. PLA is not going anywhere. While it is true that UP was looking into it, it will not happen. Read through their newsletters, they cover the situation, and have concluded it is highly unlikely. UP would have to replace all of the mainline track, upgrade the R.O.W., and overhaul the bridges, in addition to constructing proper junctions at both ends of the former SP line. The last inspection on the Niles Canyon Railway was several months ago, UP has not been back since.

Read the President's report in PLA's August 2015 "The Club Car" Newsletter, they directly address the situation.

+SierraRailway *The north Niles Canyon ROW would have needed,* in a nutshell, what I see as necessary for the Mococo Line to be brought into regular service? (No way would the tracks past Byron stand up to #4014 in their present condition; some parts of the track are stop-staked as washouts waiting to happen.) The NCRy's current track is just fine for its working collection but inadequate for multiple SD-90AC's or equivalent pulling 1,000+ tons.

What if Quincy 2 can visit the Sierra Railroad and do a tripleheader with 3 and 28 one day?

What if what? Quincy 2 is retired, and won't run again anytime soon. I don't think I'll see that happen again in my lifetime.

@@SierraRailway okay what other engines then?

@@brianfalzon6739 Robert Dollar Number #3 was out of service for a 1472 day inspection, and Clover Valley Number #4 had a running gear overhaul. Both are once again operational, so they won't be going anywhere anytime soon. As for Quincy Number #2, only time will tell when she'll be back.
