WIth soooo many new people living in and vacationers like never before, the beach sands have become rather matted down. back in the 90's when Sarasota was pretty much off everyone radar, the beach was way WAY better than what you see now. The sands were pure powder white, Fluffy not matted down except for the waters edge. Sea Shells were abundant but not intrusive to the comfort of the sand. There were many species of shells that are all but gone now. Angel wings were the most common followed by olive shells sea dollars and many more.

This was 2 years ago. I just came back from there last sunday and the sand is not matted down. I'm actually going back there this sunday because it's so beautiful. I'm only an hour and a half away.

@@zzzarkkai lived their in the mid 90's while attending Ringling. lived just a skip past the street light on midnight pass road, at the harbor towers. it was soooooo nice. again, outside of the retirees and occasional vacationers the place was pretty quite. but was quickly growing in new residents. As people came to vacation, many would opt to stay. The real-estate market for the area was mindbogglingly great. As many of the older generation were dying off, and their children having opt to leave Sarasota for the nations larger cities. The properties on the market.. well.. imo the best in the nation at the time. If i knew then what i know now, i would've made some alternative choices in what steps i had taken out of college. my career in the film industry has been great, but i couldve had a beach front home in my late 20's!! well you live and learn. lol

Jeff, I think you summed Siesta Key up very good at the end video...its vibe is chill. I was out on a boat on that Tuesday evening down near the Turtles bar when the fog rolled in. That was a eerie feeling....kind of cool, but strange in its own type of way. Enjoy the rest of your trip.

I grew up on Siesta. It was a great place to be a kid. Still love to visit but the heat n humidity can be brutal….had to head to the Carolinas and cool breezes.

So I am going to kind of let the cat out of the bag here but I trust that most humans are too lazy or uninspired to do what I do. There is public parking at the south end of Siesta Key at a place called Turtle Beach. You can park there and walk south to Casey Key. There used to be a pass between the two keys called Midnight Pass but it filled in so now you can happily walk between the two keys. The beauty of this is that there is no real public access to Casey Key so if you don't mind going for a hike and if you do like being on an easily accessed piece of heaven without a whole bunch of other humans, you can do it. You're welcome. Oh, and if you encounter a guy walking his little dog and he is wearing shorts with white sox that come up to his knees; that is Steven King.

I have a question, so i am coming here in late march. Will it be swimming weather?
@ChicagoRob23 жыл бұрын
Water temperature in March averages 72 degrees. It will still be cool, but definitely swimmable.

Sadly pretty white sand doesn't make a beautiful beach on its own. When you look back from the beach and see ugly rows of grey concrete condo blocks that look like prison cell blocks, no lush vegetation between the beach and these eye sores it does not make a pretty picture. Those that think these are the best beaches have not travelled to other parts of the states or certainly not to the rest of the world to see beautiful beaches. The rest of siesta is quite nice although much of it looks like a permanent building site or third world country...unfinished.

I'm guessing you have never been to a third world country

@@ESL-O.G. You would be guessing wrong. I have been to many North and central African countries, Asian and South American. My views are based on having travelled the world and seen many areas of many different countries.

I agree. I like Siesta Beach only because it feels cool on your feet; however, there are so many more pretty beaches out there.
