Fasting helped her here. Her body is still used to converting stored fat/protein to energy instead of getting it mainly from food intake; as long as she has fat/protein to spare, she could go on forever. She had so much spare energy for the final sprint. Well done.
@JonathanvG-wj1ro Жыл бұрын
No. O my gawd. Please don't. All the research show that fasting is not a good idea for this. Especially not at this intensity. Plus the training was suboptimal to say the least.
@mohdhalmymdyusoff5836 Жыл бұрын
Do your research. Elite runners eat more carb compared to recreational runner. Their carb intake is 70-80% diet ... they burn more. They take less fat and protein ... to maintain ideal weight as an elite runner. Their diet is unhealthy for normal people ... but is normal for physically intense jobs such as in plantation or construction . I did run 10k or 5k fasting ... it is hard, you may be dehydrated beyond that. Most human body can store 2,500 - 3,500 cal of glycogen, that will last you 25-35km ... you need to get it, Technically, she did less Long Run compared to others. In proper marathon training ... you will slow down your training 3-4 week prior the race. Last 2 weeks will mostly putting or storing more calories (we call it carbo loading) into the body. She just maintain her tsamina and performance during Ramadhan and not extra hard sessions (tempo, speed, hill etc) as most elite runners have it already ... and for non-elite, we did it in early stage of any of long distance training. Then adding distance to the peak at 3-4 weeks before the event. Final 3-4 weeks is recovery and maintenance, no hard sessions including long run, some athletes may even cut 50% of their training program during this period.. Sifan Hassan case is different ... She is not Marathon athlete as her prior training is around 5-10k track. She need to add few hard session in the beginning (such as tempo run from 5-10k to 20-25k) ... it is insane because they have to race at that pace or lower for 42km to be competitive, not like us.

@@mohdhalmymdyusoff5836 I agree with some of what you say, but you're wrong on many points. Elite or non-elite, the human body response the same, bearing in mind of course differences between people's metabolism, glycogen distribution, etc., but that has nothing to do with whether you're elite or not. The biggest factor is probably the mileage trained leading up to a race. Elite runners don't burn more. I don't know how you come to that conclusion. You don't take less fat/protein for ideal weight. The opposite if anything. Carbs store water 2:1. Cutting carbs is the easiest way to lose weight. It is also not unhealthy. Actually, it is far healthier than the standard diet. You're confusing hydration with fuel. We have no idea of how much she has trained. It's not public. You're speculating. Given the fact the Sifan is a high milage athlete, I actually doubt she has been running less than her competitors. You don't carb load for 2 weeks, at most a few days, very minimally. The final 3-4 weeks DO usually include hard workouts, definitely not only maintenance.

@@serumser1 From a personal experience, I'd say it's not that hard if you're used to fast and run for years. I started fasting young, and at 33yo, I was able to run my highest mileage ever while fasting and I'm not a pro so I just do it as a passion and a fun challenge to tackle every year.
