I love it when you find crotals, or any bell for that matter. I am involved in the bellfounding industry - it’s a fascinating world! The captive ball inside a crotal is known as a ‘rumbler’, and is cast into the bell, not added later. Clever folk these founders! Great finds, and such a wonderful distraction from all that’s happening elsewhere in the world. Brilliant -thanks Simon!

That's an insane amount of history you found in that one patch of land! A coin from 2000+ years ago laying with WWII and more "modern" ones...To think of those people who were in that same spot who dropped them and also you finding them so much later is mind-blowing! 🤯🤯🤯

31:00 I thought you might have used that Japanese technique of filling cracks with gold (or a gold coloured metal) in order to fix items but retain their character. It would really suit something like that coin! Well done to the winner of the bracelet! Lucky boogers!

Brilliant episode and luck well done. Speaking as someone who's worked with metals a lot of his life you done well to get that coin open as far as you did. As a watch & clockmaker I'd say you can use solder rather than silver solder for delicate repairs. The silver solder just makes it stronger. Plumbers solder is what I've always used. It has a much lower melting point than silver solder.

The field that loves to give. Good flying, Si. That dig and pit sculpture made me laugh, it's great. The crotal bells sounds so nice, but I don't think Nelly enjoyed it. Oh my 😢, how terribly frustrating.

Here’s the thing about Cuffs: Your friend has clearly sold his soul to the devil,in exchange for fining what he finds. Pray for his lost soul. 🤣 Also,flying that airplane,the gypsy moth,was it? That was impressive. My brother got his pilot’s license when he was 17 years old. Mom was horrified at this,as my father’s oldest brother,Hector,died flying his airplane! My brother was less than a year old when that happened,and mom forbade dad from joining Hector on that flight. If my dad did join him,I would not have been born!!
@charlesperez99766 сағат бұрын
AAAH bloody Gordon Bennett,you snapped the coin! (Like my G.B. reference 🤣) Well you win some,you lose some. I respect very much your efforts at the unfolding. I would have been sweating bullets attempting such a thing.

I've no idea what you think you did to that coin but whole it was red would of been the time to manipulate it placing it in water after only hardened the metal and made it more britel This happens when the atoms aligned under stress Still thats nothing compared to you inventing the wheel out of a squeeze bottle and a toothbrush Thanks but no thanks. N thats what happens when you repeatedly TEMPER HARDEN metal in water
