Sifu Lam is a legend. I am honored to know him and lucky that he likes to demonstrate on me when he is around. His knowledge is practical in an immediate sense, yet also a long term. See how he uses humor to break tension, yet can make you fear for your life a moment later. That is a true Grandmaster.

So true - distance and control; applies to all art. The ability to apply under pressure requires good partners and lots of practice. Partner and practice are something not everyone have. Most arts focus on forms and kata. It is a rude awakening when they found out it doesn’t work under pressure. Glad to see you’re training distance and control under pressure. Keep up the good work.

funny, it looks real gentle how he's handling the guy in the white shirt. But it surely from experience I can tell you it does not feel gentle while you are on the receiving end. Watch how he turns his head to the side after he sits him down. This looks so soft but when its happening you feel it is right on the edge of breaking you. Also notice the difference in the first exchange to the last, Sifu quickly makes him start punching in a wing chun type style. great fighters seem to be able to make others conform to their style like this he does it extremely quickly. Especially impressive with a student who is strong and obviously wound up on adrenaline.

Beeing on the forefront of the movements of the oppenent, is what is the key, I belive. He attacks, you see an opening and sets in in the space he so creates, something that makes him to pull back, which makes you follow him on his way back... That is the way allso of muay thai.

The Wing Chun fighting stance doesn't look anything like a Boxing stance. You bend your knees, put your legs in a different position, one hand is in front near the chest while the other hand sticks out like you're going to shake someone's hand, and you leave your neck unprotected for attack. The Boxing stance is slightly bending the knees, hands up near the chin and arms compact, and chin tucked in for protection.

And the guy in the sweater has a lot of heart ❤️ and his punches were disciplined but the fundamentals guys!!! Disrupt the balance!! Recurve and collect his energy!! Scatter it n send it back while controlling the distance and shift when you know he’s loading because wouldn’t you spin into a guy who intercepted your arm? I would!! Probably a hook or a cross right? These couple key details n you guys are on your way to becoming masters yourselves!! Great fight!! Great skills!! Peace sifu

It's neither better nor worse. I think each fighter has to find what works better for themselves. I can pose the same question back to you. Every stance has it's pros and cons, and depending on your opponent and your level of skill and style, either works well. If your core Wing Chun is strong, I believe it can be applied from any stance. Given the prevalence of Muay Thai/Kick Boxing today, using their boxing stance designed specifically to deal with MT/KB styles seems appropriate.

All the things that Sifu Lam is doing comes from years of training and dedication in wing chun , nothing comes easy . If you can train in the sil lum tao form everyday , whenever you can , then you can achieve what Sifu Lam is doing . This is for real , no BS . All kung fu systems has these elements its just that not everybody takes the time to do it . Everybody wants things to happen over night , but it really does ' nt happen that way , you need to build yourself up . If you ' re a wing chun student try doing the sil lum tao form for 1 - month , then try and spar with someone , if you don ' t feel yourself getting strong yet , then you need to keep practicing until you feel the benefits . If you ' re not learning WC yet , then find a teacher then experience it . If you really don ' t care about WC then , Stay off this section of youtube .

how he does it is exactly how san shou should evolve into real chi sou, and chi sou for all internal and southern gongfu, not only wing chun. This is where it gets to. If you cannot understand how to move this calm and be apparently fast though not outwardly fast, you cannot get to the real bagua or taiji; Many xingyi hold themselves back in this way, because they remain attached to "What I am doing". It isn't what you are doing, it is what WE are doing.

yeah take it from a ex boxer and now hsing i/pakua practitioner wing chun structure is unreal the punches look like they dont have power but they do when i was 17 years old and weighed about 140 i could stand in goat stance with my back to the nautilus machine wrap the pulleys around my arm in a way so that i could do the wing chun center line punches no exxageration i could do the entire rack i wasnt that powerful the wing chun structure is just that good
@JohnnyAguirreTV10 жыл бұрын
maduroholdings If I may ask, how long have you been trianing in Wing Chun Kyun and how long did you learn Boxing?
@maduroholdings10 жыл бұрын
Johnny Aguirre TV I never said I train in wing chun. I train hsing i/ bagua since 1990 i trained in boxing and choy lay fut from 17-22 years old. boxed with the police Athletic League. Now why do I know about wing chun Structure. I went to a wing chun school in my area about a two years ago, and was there a few months. in that time Over and over again the sifu there was able to take me off my root. and take me off my root.somewhat easily. one thing about hsing i and bagua is that we know how to root. most people i dealt with Krav maga, tai chi shaolin teachers and long time practioners. are pretty impressed with my root and structure.. but this wing chun teacher dealt with me like I was a five year old. After being there that short time I did learn that their stance is set up in a way that like hsing i and pakua it is engineered to be stable. not as stable as hsing i but stable in its own right. Test it for yourself visit your local wing chun school. or a couple. and ask them about how their stance works.. and why is their structure sound. I am sure they will be more than happy to demonstrate to you how stable they are. and when you do make them move they will make you pay for that loss in real estate. now lets talk about the power in the wing chun punch. as per the sifu at Elite Academy (these are not my words) the wing chun punch is not a knockout blow it is a barrage of jack hammer type blows. if you watch a jack hammer you will see that the first second and even the third blow is not enough to break the concrete but the fourth fifth and sixth do break the concrete. It is really not enough to just talk about it. you need to feel it for yourself.. notice I said feel it not see it. the eyes cannot process. what it is I am trying to explain. So again visit a wing chun school and ask about the engineering of their stance. and what makes it work. they will be happy to explain. PEACE.

@masteropuppets10011 жыл бұрын
I aint talking about the Pidgen toe'd stance. I am talking about the regular neutral, wing chun stance, you use to fight and spar with. Not the stance you start in with, when doing chi Sao. And, I wasn't talking about the Hand structuring, either.

Yes, because the traditional wing chun stance, is just like the Boxer's, but more condensed, with more bending of the knees.

@1Invinc11 жыл бұрын
Not really. I believe the position of the arms matters much less than the legwork and positioning. You can hold a slightly modified boxing stance yet still be able to apply Wing Chun principles. The traditional stance is applicable yes, but blind adherence to tradition is not good Wing Chun. That stance is most applicable for training and WC vs WC sparring.
