Sig Sauer M11-A1 Unboxing. Is it a P229? Or P228? Both? Neither?

Close up look at Sig Sauer’s M11-A1 chambered in 9mm.
Lots of confusion around the naming of this model which started out (in 1990) as the military version of the new P228- called the M11. Eventually the P228 was replaced by the P229 (LONG story) in various calibers and this firearm was re-introduced as the M11-A1.

Good review, well done. I've had a M11-A1 for some years now, spoiled with a Wilson EDC-X9; but every once in a while... I installed the Sig E2 grip, which my smaller hands appreciate, nothing wrong at all with the Sig.

The Sig website as of July 2024 still says it's "Out of Stock". I wonder why?

I have a 94 P228. I sent it to Sig and had the art and enhanced action trigger job done. It's breaks at around 3-3.5lbs. The only thing I don't like is, it lacks accuracy without the suppressor. I shoot it suppressed and it's money. Very nice guns.

The M11-A1 has a slightly fatter .40 lower frame than the original P228 and M11. Compared to my buddy’s P226, my M11-A1 definitely feels slightly wider.

The P229-1 has the wider mag well to fit the double tapered 229-1 magazines. These also have thinner walled frames for the grip screws, they also use a shorter grip screws. P229-9 have the same frame as the P228 frame, but usually have the legacy slide and cannot fit the 229-1 double tapered magazine. All P228s have folded sheet metal slides except two that were sent for trails for a LE agency, who chose a different pistol. I’m not sure what happened to the two 228s with stainless slides, but imagine they’ll be valuable. The 229-1 also uses a different locking block than the P228/229-9. Sig released a P229 legacy slide with 229-9 frame in 2020. I was able to get one for myself.

@@TheArkansasGunGuy The P229 series is confusing because they were originally built to handle the 40 and 357 calibers. When they made the 229 9mm version they kept the 228 frame, while discontinuing the P228. Later Sig came out with the P229-A1 9mm series to have the same frame dimensions as 40/357 version. Only because I was curious about why the barrel hood was shaped different on A1. It took some digging to get to the bottom of it.

Where did you get this Sig from Please?? Most Sigs are great, they’re just overpriced! The 226 in 9mm is my favorite auto pistol of all time. …period! Thanks allot. Godspeed

It’s a p229, the p228 had a different slide, you can tel the difference because the 228 had a slide cut that went all the way to the rear by the hammer. I was able to throw a 229 optic cut slide on it with no problem.

A SRT trigger for your P226 is only $39.00 from Sig and eliminates that 2nd shot take up. I love mine.

I believe the P229 was 1992 in 40 S&W, 1994 .357 Sig, then later in 9mm

What was the price you paid? I just bought one out the door 748. Same exact model. It was in battlehawk armory. I see them all day for 1099 before taxes else where. I bought a 229 legion and love it. Wanted a 226 but I found this gun knowing its size I will carry it easier then 226. I still some day will buy 226 elite.

There's a SRT trigger kit you can get for your M25 And you can put it in easily, I have both those, the M25 and the M11 And also have the Tacops/Blackwater in 40 cal, but I just bought a barrel for the M25 and converted to 9mm... I'm just over in Siloam and work at JB Hunt in Lowell, I go over to Tonitown and shoot quite a bit. You have two of the finest weapons that have ever been created by man there. I predict hammer fired weapons will be a huge thing in the next few years because of the accidental discharges of the striker fired guns..

Yeah Sig used to call this the P228 M11-A1 like you said in the video. It was a big problem because absolutely nothing about it was a P228 besides the placement of the serrations. The entire gun was a P229-1 that they put P228 serrations and grips on. It made absolutely no sense whatsoever to call it a P228. It was just downright confusing.

You pretty much on point, the M11 was carried by Army CID now they use M18, I carry a P229DAK at work

I just bought the .40 LE edition DAK. It shoots fine, but the DAK prevents accurate rapid fire. Had to trade it. The huge double action trigger distance just kills it. It forces you to shoot it like a revolver.
