Hey Capt, I am sure you remember the day on 7/27/20 when a lady off of Bailey's Island here is Maine was killed by a shark while she was swimming with her daughter. It was two days later, I was out there not far from there and being on pins and needles because of that shark attack while kayak fishing, that I landed a Striper, and was about to grab it with my hand, being a few inches away. A huge splash and a seal grabbed my Striper and scared the hell out of me. I still think of that seal and what he could of done to me with a bigger grab higher up the line. He managed to grab the fish and tear it free of the line. So you are right about the dangerous part, lots of chances out there. Great video as usual.

In 2004 we were surf casting on the Atlantic side of Hatteras, NC (Avon) and I caught a 7½' shortfin mako. It took me almost 3 hours to land it and it was amazing! My ex-husband kept asking if I i wanted help as I didnt have a harness or a chair, just the pvc pipe we had to set the rods in, but I managed to land it. I was literally dead the next say, with jelly for arns for like 3 days but I will always remember that fish!!! It's scary as Hell to think about trying to land one out that far, be safe good fishing ❤!

Hey, the Cape has great whites right near shore. I used to surf fish the Cape years ago wading out as far as I can. It was awesome. But once the seals came down, then the sharks, it was time to let go and have good memories of days gone by. I think I'll just stick with fishing from a boat, and if ever I catch myself saying, "You're gonna need a bigger boat," I'm done.

@FishingWithBoyt Wow! That's a tight size window! I never watch fishing videos.. oh no, that's a lie, I've watched a few from kayaking dealing with sharks cuz I love anything sharks...weirdo I know. I'm from the west coast and would go with my dad and step grandpa go, as I was young it felt like the middle of nowhere. We... well, he.. caught swordfish which was scary to me, sad to me as a kid too but🤷🏼♀️ I know one of them got stabbed my one bringing it in once. But the scary bit was my dad had something stronger then he anticipated and almost got pulled right out the back of the boat but my grandpa got his just by his pants belt, and happily it held cuz his body was out over the water and he looked down and it was just loaded with big sharks all snapping at stuff. I remember them as great whites ,but again, I was just a kid and scared I was about to watch my dad get eaten alive. Happily his belt held till he could pull him back in. I know we got a couple sharks and good size cuz I can still see the image of the back half of one with like the cut side on the counter (probably not explaining it well) and the tale being about halfway up the cabinets at least and my dad just beaming. I wasn't a huge fan, but, my dad wanted boys and I was first so he taught me to box and do lots of crazy stuff. This was a long time ago as I'm... oy... I'm 51, almost 52, so, yea a long time from like 7yrs old😬😳🫣 But, I saw your short and had watch... my heart was pounding, especially knowing you didn't have anyone to grab your belt if necessary!!🤢 glad it went well though! Great seeing how aware of your surroundings you were... always glancing around you checking who's where :) Every time, based on the short comments, you put the fish back and held your hand in the water, my heart was in my throat! Glad you're good! Be safe out there!😊

Great stuff! What size circle hooks do you prefer and do you snell them or just use a palomar? I notice you flip the bail and load the rod quicker than I do. Do you do that with smaller fish too?
@FishingWithBoyt2 ай бұрын
@hamgrenade 9/0 unless they are very picky then I'll drop to a 5/0. I use an improved clinch knot or a really small surges loop so the cook can turn. I do load the rod as fast as I can without setting the hook too har. Usually I reel like crazy within a second or two of feeling the bite to take in the slack, when the fish are in open water like this they take in all the slack on their own by running. Loading the rod by sweeping away from the fish sets the hook without pulling it. Kind of a steady slow to fast motion. The big fish have been really quick to drop the bait after the first bite so I try to make contact as fast as possible.

I wasn't in a boat but I was in kennebec county Maine stripper fishing.. This is not one of the big ones that gramps tells but it's the one that got away!! Fished the bank up and down it all day with artificial single hook "regulations" around 730 at night locked on to the only fish of the day.. had my buddy ex buddy may I add, netting rubber 3 foot net I've caught plenty of 20 to 30 lbs and landed them this one was different. My ex buddy couldn't fit the fish in the net! I'm standing up on a rock pile to prevent my braid from touching any rocks with taunt line do to instant cut of line. The exbuddy kept turning around and telling me how big it was and how he can not fit it in the net,all I could see was the tail slapping the water and noodle arms trying to dead lift his max lift.. needless to say my line scrapped the side of the rock wall in the current and popped me off. I dryheved for 4 mins! dropped him off and lost his number. Worst day of my life!

@FishingWithBoyt2 ай бұрын
@scotpettengill7801 I was just cruising around between a mile and a half and 3 miles over top ledges ranging from 60 to 170ft. Usually run pretty fast to cover ground then slow down to a crawl if I see some fish or bait (Usually by spooking them by running over them). The conditions are what made this day possible, the day was perfect for it, we usually only get glass offs first thing in the morning.

Hey Scott. I've fished, and still do fish, the Piscataqua river and the surrounding coastline for decades. Every fisherman has an opinion and their methods. But I've found that as the water warms, dropping a mackerel about a half mile out of little harbor in deeper water works. Across from the Navy yard usually produces, but have a good co- captain because as you may know, there are a lot of traffic and structure issues to deal with as the current rips through there. North or south of the river has great rocky structure to pitch a mackerel into. Unfortunately, you won't come across the epic pogie feed of a few weeks ago too often. Good luck.

I’m out of the pisquataqua and all the ponies schools are gone outside the harbor. Do you really just see the stripers on the surface or are they on those jack schools that pop up.
