Beautiful bird shots! I must say, I like how Fuji renders bird images.. Always pleased with them even from the older cameras I've used. A lot of minute detail thanks to the X Trans setup.

Thank you for the wonderful and honest review as always. As much as I liked my 100-400 when on DSLR and enjoy using Sigma products, I think I'll wait for Tamron to bring their 50-400 to the X mount. It just makes more versatile sense for daytime motorsports events. Although that might certainly be more expensive.
@DamianBrown Жыл бұрын
The 50-400 would be wild, and ye I'd love to try motorsports with it. I'm not experienced at all shooting that but I've been eyeing up a few places lately to try.

Love having more choice and competition. Think in this case I'd pick up a used Fuji 100-400 - slightly sharper images, strong resale value, and little things like the lens hood has a 'flap' to access CPL filter, and the tripod mount, not just for on tripod but holding the lens securely as you walk between shots.

Sweet, glad to see they ported this to Fuji. Nice to have a smaller, lighter, cheaper, alternative. I definitely agree it should come with the foot. Maybe Kirk or RRS will make a really nice one

Hi, have you compared this one with Fuji's 100-400? I love that one, but' getting and dusty due to heavy use, thank you , cheers from Uruguay !

I still really like that one myself, bit faster too.

I had the EF version that I used with a Fringer Pro II adapter and it was nice and with aperture ring. In that model you could use TC but I Don’t know if that one can, is it designed for or not? The lens hood it is designed to use as a pull in-out zoom. In the EF version the filter thread was 67mm too and with a 67-72mm adapter you could use 72mm filters using the lens hood mounted, so great as protection against rain, for example. The tripod ring adapter it is perfect using extension tubes for macro shots, in my EF version I bought a German adapter that worked pretty well. For a X-H body it handles pretty good but the big dilema it is, Canon EF 100-400mm f:4.5-5.6L-IS II + FP II adapter or GFX FP adapter, that one or the Fujifilm one, for me the Canon option it is the best naturally because with adapters may be used in all systems (Canon, Nikon, Sony, L Mount cameras and Fujifilm), brand new it is quite expensive , in second hand at the price of the Fuji one, so, the Sigma one it becomes a great option for sure…

Brilliant, thanks for this!!!

@@DamianBrown The same happens in the Tamron 100-400mm f::4.5-6.3 Di USD VC, you can use an adapter 67-72mm with lens hood… Not in the 70-210mm f:4 Di USD VC.

I think the elephant in the room is actually the 70-300, which will get you a little wider yes, but is importantly 2/3 of a stop faster at f4-5.6 and has the best OIS on any Fuji lens I've used. Add the 1.4x TC and you have got a 98-420mm f5.6-7.1, so giving up a third of a stop only to get the last 100mm of range. A lot cheaper and lighter, too.
@DamianBrown Жыл бұрын
Excellent point and I definitely see what you mean, can't argue with it. For me there's something about these big chunks that attract a different section of the market so I'm not sure I'd choose that one especially as I'd want 400mm without losing even that bit of light.

@kzr83 Жыл бұрын
@@DamianBrown The 90mm will never go anywhere. I would always keep at least one X body just for it. I was blown away when I mounted it the first time and shot at the (very short) min close distance wide open 😱 Mind you, with the new 23mm, 33mm and 56mm (only have the 23mm yet) I can't see myself ever not being in the X system, even if I added another mirrorless one.

This lens is a blinding deal. But as I've got the 70-300... I think I'm going to end up buying the Fuji 150-600 as well and the 1.4x converter too, instead. Not until after Xmas though. :-) But I do think Sigma has a real winner on its hands with this bad boy. Though $140 for the tripod foot is extortion. Thanks for the review Damian :-)

No tripod collar included is tightarse. The lens is lengthy enough and bulky enough to warrant one. I have the XF 70-300mm on an XH-2 but am disappointed compared to my old XF 100-400mm on my old X-H1 -- The XF 100-400mm seemed to be able to isolate and lock on to birds within a tangle of branches far more efficiently than my 70-300mm is able. I keep waiting for a firmware update, but none seems forthcoming. I think I'll ditch the 70-300mm and go for a replacement XF 100-400mm. I miss that lens too much. It is wider and asking £120 for the Sigma TS-111 collar/foot for this lens is a piss take. Also, I think I have benefited in the past from the wider Fuji lens at f/4.5 to f/5.6. The Sigma at f/5.0 to f/6.3 is significantly darker... hence the price difference I suppose. Glad to to alternative choices appearing though!
