+Jacob Roberts well thanks! I'm glad that it's coming across well. I was thinking about for my more oddball product reviews doing a "why you should AND why you shouldn't" series pointing out the reasons for why someone might want to buy it and reasons why you should avoid it.

Let's compare this to a car. Fast pickup in a car is an advantage. The benefit is that it is easier to cut into heavy traffic.

Good comparison, thanks. Regarding the manual focus ring: In my opinion it doesn't really matter that the focus ring is not so smooth on the Samyang (/Rokinon) because focussing at 12mm is extremely easy. Set the ring to slightly before infinity with f/5.6 (or higher) and everything from 1m to infinity is sharp. So usually for landscape photography etc. there is not much need for turning this ring.

Does anyone know why my sigma 16mm f1.4 with a6400 can auto focus close, but not back far when I move the object or myself back to the original spot? I tried AFC wide and a few other modes and potential fixes to no avail. If anybody knows the exact issue let me know!

Thanks so much for doing this man! I have to say I think both lenses have their place. My biggest complaint with the Rokinon was the fringing and the vignetting. I like the sigma and have owned the rokinon/samyang in the past. my problem with the sigma is its size. It is quite large and heavy to sit on the front of comparatively lightweight bodies such as the a6000 and a6100. For my use case I think I would like a more compact lens and am considering the Tamron 11-20 and possibly Laowa lens. Tokina is supposed to be releasing a wide zoom this September so the competition is heating up!

First video I see from Christopher, I like this style, objective comparisons of A/B, I hope to not just see similar images taken from the same exact place, that's good to learn about the differences in angles of a lens, but also see the best possible composition of a scene with each lens, maybe, the Rokinon needed to be a few steps further in to not just see the plain brick walls, or maybe the sigma needed to be further away of the hand railing to have a better composition like the Rokinon had, maybe we will learn how to adjust compositions to the tools we have at hand in the process of comparing, I think this will enrich the experience.

Hi Chris! Im going on an African Safari this July and am deciding which lenses to get. I'm bringing 2 bodies and will need a Wildlife lens and a Landscape lens. I currently have a Sony A6000 and a Nikon D5600. I was thinking perhaps it would be best to buy a Telephoto Zoom lens (at least 300mm) for the Nikon and a Wide Angle lens for the Sony (either a WA Zoom or the Sigma/ Roki prime). If you have a moment, I'd really appreciate knowing what you think and hearing any suggestions! THANKS!

This was a VERY GOOD VIDEO!! I'm in the market for a wide angle lens.. I think I would need something wider than 16 mm.. I would like to cover entire rooms in real estate photography.
@ChristopherBurress7 жыл бұрын
+DaveSincere I would look at the rokinon, but since it would possibly be a write off and an asset in your case i would also consider the 10-18. It's wider and sharper, and when shooting real estate you are shooting at like f/11 anyways.
@ericrueger42317 жыл бұрын
As an Architect I am in a similar situation, I got the 10-18 a few days ago. It's sharper than the kit lense but I can not say I am impressed... But that may be my copy... I have time to return it and have thought about going the 16 f1.4 but I really am liking the wide end of the 10-18. So I am not sure within this price range there is a prefect ancer.

@ChristopherBurress7 жыл бұрын
+Caleb mount I didn't think I was bashing it. Other than with the chromatic aberrations in the corners. I said that it gave a cool and unique perspective with the wider field of view, that it's more compact and lighter, and that it has good image quality albeit not the best. The prices were listed on one of the opening shots of the lenses, probably smaller than it should have been though.

This isn't a software review my guy. CA correction isn't perfect, especially when it's as severe as some of the rokinon lenses when they are wide open.
