Great video!! I appreciate the comparison between a kit and prime lens. I'm debating whether to get the Sigma 30mm or 56mm for food photography. I like how you get more room with the 30mm, but I noticed the photos/videos are not as sharp.

Adrian, thank you so so much for making this video. Extremely helpful cause you got a super similar setup to mine (I even have a background wall of the same color!). I got the 16mm lens but omg I can't stand how my face looks! Also I have to worry so much about my background and it just shows so much. I tried bringing the camera closer to me but that just amplifies the effect haha. So I am gonna sell the 16mm and get the 30mm for my a6400! I have a desk tripod for my camera that can extend like yours so it should work out fine :) One question, is the 30mm still usable in 4k at that distance? I imagine since the 16mm looks 24mm in 4k, then the 30mm may look something like 45mm? That's my only concern so far.

This explains my issue. I just bought the Sony ZV-E10 and they sold me a 30mm lens. I literally have to have the camera on the other side of the room to capture the shot I want, instead of being able to have it closer to my desk. Quite annoying really as I just dont have the room behind my desk like you.

Just got 30mm (have Sony 15mm 1,4 and Sigma 56mm) for my piano playing shooting and really happy with this middle range focusing distance. Have to work now to exactly know where is DOF located for hands/piano keys in sharp, because detailed (close) view with F1,4 really narrow... Thank you for great talking. Marry Christmas.

Hello Adrian if I use a green background with ecamm is the choice of a 16mm or 30mm lens important? Thank you for your answer

Hey Dominique, there shouldn't be a big difference but you will need a larger greenscreen to fill the 16mm as it is a wider angle

Adrian, you knocked that out of the park. My dilema is solved, thanks to you...I think? I was thinking I could use my newly purchased Sony ZV-E10 to make up for any differences between the two lenses, with the crop features. But, I'm shooting in two styles: (1) sofa for talking to the camera, up against a wall (about 1-meter away from the camera lens); and (2) full-body demonstration videos (3-meters away). Which lens will do me better?
@matteventu Жыл бұрын
Which one did you go for? I just purchased the ZV-E10 body and have to choose the lens 😁 I was leaning towards the 16mm f1.4, but then I found the 30mm f1.4 for just a bit more than what I'd pay for a second hand 16mm.

Hi! What lens would be better for a top down type of videos of unboxing and small presentatIons of fishing items like lures and reels and so on. The camera would be at a60-70 cm height from the desk
@AdrianSalisbury2 жыл бұрын
If you have a kit lens with a zoom you could try the different zooms and see what you like. Maybe the viltrox 23mm that we reviewed in another video
@enigmascape Жыл бұрын
I could not decide which I liked more either, so I purchased both, but now I'm wondering if I might have been better off with the sigma 18-50 f 2.8 and probably going to buy that next rather than complete my 'sigma trio by getting the 56mm 1.4... I think the versitility of the zoom would have more value to me than the 56mm prime and I'd be able to use it as more of an all-rounder lens... decisions decisions... Truth is, if I had to do it over again, I'd have probably got the zoom to start with as its just more versitile, but I still have no regrets on my sigma primes either as I want to really get into astrophotography and I do like shooting in really low light and the 1.4 really is worth it.

I would be interested to know what you think of the AF system on the A6400 when compared to the Panasonic, the Panasonic has gotten a lot of bad press over the AF system. Personally, I've never really had a major issue with the GH5s or the GH5, but it is a little on the slow side when compared to the Dual AF system on the Canon Cinema camera, but that would be expected given the price point of the Canon C range. I wondered how it compares in your opinion to the A6400 which is actually cheaper than the GH5?
@AdrianSalisbury3 жыл бұрын
I know I've answered this elsewhere but I use both cameras in different ways. THe a6400 is perfect to have on a tripod in front of me for these type of videos. When I hold something up, it locks on to it beautifully. When I use my GH5 I typically have it in my hand and don't use the continual auto focus anyway. Most videographers would only shoot manual focus when handholding. In this way I love both cameras and they both have a place in my setup. Hope that helps.

I've read something about how on the a6400 the 16mm Sigma actually becomes the equivalent to a 24mm lens, which makes the face not too bad even though its a wide lens, is that true? Which of the 16m/30mm Sigmas do you think most looks like your face in actual reality?

This question is too simple. Depends on what are you going to shoot. If portrait then 30, if vlogging, real estate or travel and landscape then 16. Better will be to compare same focal distance like sigma with sony... Or apsc 30mm 1.4 with ff 35 1.4.

The 16 mm shows you closer than you are because you have the image stabilisation ON(steady shot) and it crops by 1.44x factor. Basicly, the 16 mm turns into 23 mm on an APS-C camera.The 16 mm is the most suitable, if used corectly.
@AdrianSalisbury6 ай бұрын
This is on an APS-C camera so 16mm will always be cropped regardless of the image stabiliser being on. It does crop with the ZVE1 though.
@psihopatologie6 ай бұрын
I am well aware of the APS C crop. There is an additional crop due to the image stabilization set in camera. Sony calls it STEADY SHOT.
