I hope you reach your goal of 2k subs soon, but don’t be discouraged either way. You have a good thing going here. I watch all the camera KZbinrs, and you can hold your own with anyone. You have a great sense of humor and unique delivery. I look forward to all of your videos and appreciate your analysis. Best wishes! 👍🏼🙏

Samyang is by far the best value option where I live. Only 55% of the price of the Sigma. Sure the Sigma has better build, but optically the Samyang is even better. And I love light weight lenses as long as they don't compromise on sealing and IQ. I also much prefer a plastic hood that breaks when you drop it. Just like a car that deformation zone can protect the lens from breaking, while a metal hood transfers the force right into the lens making it more likely to break.

Sigma renders better and is better optically. You are only trying to justify your purchase at a lower price😂

Great video i subscribed three times😊the samyang has weather sealing all the way through the sigma dosnt which is rubbish when you see the exterior build of the sigma.

Thank you for the comparison. It is a tough choice. Looks vs practicality. I am thinking about the sigma to pair with my A7c, just beautiful lenses.

dude thanks for this video! I have been thinking of getting a 24mm lens and don't have the GM budget so after many reviews on the samyang your comparisons, I'm definitely comfortable getting the samyang. Thanks!

Does the Samyang have reliable weather sealing? I don't intend to shoot in a blizzard, but will it withstand a bit of rain? I am considering this for my Sony A6400 as a 35mm equivalent lens.

I got caught in a torrential storm once and it was ok, otherwise I haven’t tested beyond that.

You missed the distortion. IMO, focus breathing and distortion control on Samyang is way better . Sigma has crazy barrel distortion and horrible focus breathing issues. Samyang is a clear winner here. I own one :)
@CharlieVN3 жыл бұрын
I could have sworn I mentioned it, or could have imagined it 😂. Distortion is likely the reason why the samyang has better corner sharpness, because of the overcorrecting. For the sake of brevity, the sharpness comparison does take into account of distortion by default, but yeah, I did omit that as well as the coma aspect.

Hey guy. Thanks for the comparison but I’m confused… in your Samyang vs Sony F/2.8 comparison, the Samyang crapped out during the video AF test. Can you comment what happened there? In this vid and the vs GM video, the Samyang seemed fine. Really want this lens for video use due to minimal focus breathing but wanna make sure the AF is solid. Thanks in advance.
@CharlieVN2 жыл бұрын
it was in an extremely dim light scenario, and for reference, both tamron and sigma have failed similar tests, so I dont like to perform it knowing they would fail 😅. I think it was ISO 12800, f1.8, 1/25? somewhere around there, it will start to fail and sony will continue on. With a newer body like the A7iv, A7siii, and A1, it can go even beyond those light levels. if you have any sort of kicker light, even something ridiculously low like 4-5 lumens, it'll pick up AF right away. Samyang would be my pick for video, the breathing control is quite good. there is a small amount of motor noise, very faint, not an issue if you use external mics. Even internal, you probably wont even pick it up.

@@CharlieVN thanks so much. I just got an A7C and am building my first full frame lens collection. Just bought the Samyang 35 F/1.8 & 85 F/1.4 and lens station so the 24mm makes sense for me. I’m not a pro but I think they are less clinical looking than the native Sony lenses. Guess we’ll see. Cheers and keep up the good work. Just subbed.

I think the sigma will keep you from wasting too much time in post, correcting the images you shoot & last longer in terms of build quality. As well as being better for video overall. BUT.... Samyang is ABSOLUTELY too good to pass up for the price, that's across their whole line up. I would only get the Sigma if I were just starting out and couldn't reshoot my portfolio. If I'm not getting paid and can reshoot my work, I'd go with the Samyang until the money started to roll in. Most of your work will be viewed online anyway, so nobody will be able to see the $300 difference you paid.
@CharlieVN3 жыл бұрын
interestingly, the sigma distortion is likely the reason why it loses out in the far corners and performs better mid and centrally where there's minor distortion issues. The samyang elements are physically bigger if you watch the side by sides, which I found interesting. With the sigma, you are buying for a reputation, you are buying a finely made product from the heart of japan, you are buying a lens that will last forever........... it'll last a lot longer than my constant search for the perfect gear 😅
