Sigma 36 Gone Sailing

'Sigma 36 gone sailing to Scotland' the title should have been. I head off and sail overnight to the Isle of Man but I'm thwarted by a forecast of a week or more of headwinds to come. I decide to make a tactical retreat but have a good sail all the same. Ten minute video, please watch right through, hope you enjoy, if you do, you know what to do. What a shame you were faced with a week of northerlies ahead. I can appreciate why you decided to sail back. We've passed Port Erin a few times but have never been in. Must visit sometime (but not with NW winds!). Come to think of it, we haven't been to Moelfre for years either (or Cemaes Bay!). On to your next video.................

NW winds persisted about 10 days. I was a bit hasty though in advertising the boat because of my failure to go north. IOM were demanding proof of 2 jabs and a negative test, I'd had the jabs but wasn't going to go through the test and besides, no idea of when winds would favour. I sold the boat for a fair price but didn't take into account the way boat prices have gone so would not be able to buy anything like it for the same money now. We got that calm weather after but too late for me. I'm working on a gateway in a stone wall now, a change from boat work!

As promised, Mike, since finding you again on KZbin I've been slowly going through your impressive video catalogue (all given a "thumbs up"). One thing I realised early on is the speedy turn-over of yachts you own. I know every yacht is a compromise but as a suggestion for an out-of-season video it would be interesting to get your thoughts on the yachts you bought - why you bought them, why you sold them & whether you have any favourites! Finally - why are you keeping the Sigma on the Menai Straights - have you moved from Cemaes? Hwyl a flag. Rej

I bought a Rival 32 in the mid nineties as a project. I still have it but it's still not finished! These boats I have had since were only stop gaps until I finished the Rival. Trouble is, they all needed work too so progress on the project has been slow. I keep it on my mooring at Cemaes so any other boat is homeless and exactly what happened to the Sigma which in any case not suited to drying out alongside the wall with it's narrow fin and near 2m draught.. I sold that too after giving up on my planned Scottish cruise, her home was the boatyard and the plan was to sail away after launch so no need for a mooring. The good news is I progressed with the project over the summer and have also found a great holiday boat for next year. It also needs work! Others have suggested I review all my boats but the best way is to look at the old videos, although they just represent about half of the 15 plus I owned. They were all good in their own way. Well done for wading through them and thanks for liking. I may do a video of the new boat soon.

Hello again Mike, great to see you out in the new boat - she's looking good - pity though with the wind direction and spoiling the planned trip. You inspire me to get out there again and sample the good life of coastal cruising.

Hello Joe, I hope things turn better, good for anyone heading south though! All my stuff on board, it was like moving house, now I'm home with empty cupboards, will have to shop. I did a lot to make easier for single handing, the roller headsail and mainsail bag makes a lot of difference.

We need a bit of excitement sometimes. First time I sailed right through. (As fas as I remember).
