A video on how to prepare and cook them, like you mentioned in the end would be cool. I like this trap, thanks again!

Thank you for replying. I had no idea that birds were such a good option for survival.

The trap makes perfect sense but I think that the people that bad mouth this old design are not taking into consideration, that these traps require both location(geographic) and are dependent on species of bird as well. I imagine in a total survival situation, this would be effective on such birds as corvids and species like robins or other birds that forage every where including the trees. Every tool and trap has its place. Great video.

snaring birds isn't legal except for survival situations. it works the same as every other type of snare, this is just another way of mounting a snare to something with bait. try it yourself.

I'm not sure I understand the need for the loop made from the stick. What is it's purpose other then a place to put the snare? It seems like a small branch limb at the right angle would do the same thing and be whole lot faster to make. How about setting the Ojibway bird trap on the hanging stick? In any case, an interesting video...

I don't know I think armadillos are dumber. But oppossum bite hard so its a lil harder to catch them with cordage. They will bite through it unless head snared and lifted off the ground.

Do you gut them and then dry them, or just pluck the feathers?...

I HAVE tried it myself. I have snared rabbits easily, and used figure 4 and piute deadfalls on squirrel. The way this trap is set up, you basically just put the snare near where the animal will be, and hope it somehow sticks its head in there and gets caught. You don't know how big the bird will be, where it will land or anything. It could be a little sparrow of bluejay, and neither one will be likely to put there head in there, because they don't nee to to get the berries.

not a big fan of rat traps. they break really easy, even the big ones. And the pack rats steal the bait off mine almost every time, they are super ninja rats! And they are really to small for our squirrels, we have 3 pound squirrels here. And yes very good for urban stuff!

Catching birds with this type of noose trap is very difficult.

it does seem highly inefficient to build such a structure just to add a simple snare to, which could be added to a majority of branches of trees out there in any case?

I bet this trap almost never works... Care to show a video of it working?

Cool easy trap reminds my of the Ohno bird the male of the species has white feathers a blue beak but its legs are only 1/2 an inch long and its balls hang 4 inches down. So every time it lands it screams ooooohhh nooooooo ooooohhh nooooooo ooooohhh nooooooo

Do I need a license for such small game?

Would be nicer to see it actually catch a bird. Theory is nice on paper, but actually working is a totally different thing. I'd like to make sure the bird sticks his head in and gets snared, not just sits there and eats all the bait and flies away.

Put it this way,You are a survival guy.If you had to depend on this trap to survive would you use it?I think not.You know in your heart this trap take too long to catch anything,so why show it.Be true to your craft and only show what you would use to survive, not something second rate.

Another unproven trap.Only show traps that works in the wild not something that looks like it might work.
