This video is a follow up video to our yo yo bird trap video and it will cover how to construct the same trap the old school way without the yo yo.

yeah I am about to do a video series on that actually. Ilegal trapping with fish hooks. Fantastic way to catch birds including turkey. I have heard of guys stringing a trot line across a field and catching several in an afternoon.

interesting point. you would have to play with your cordage length a lot and increase trap building time. But I bet that would work just fine. Have you had much success with this trap?

How would you prepare the bird once you caught it ?

Best way is to clean it right away removing the guts and drain it of its blood best to wash it off in a near by creek and depending on size you can make a skier and just cook over a open flame. Some native Americans would use clay and just throw the meal into the fire and when the clay is done and dried just crack it open and there lays your dinner steamy and hot ready to eat

Why couldn't you just leave one of the lower branches on to serve as a spring? And rather than drilling a hole, bind two sticks together and wedge a thin edged perch stick in between them. Digging that hole through the post with my Rambo signature survival kukri would be a pain.

now ya see how high that dead fall is and he was talking bout breaking the birds leg a properly set trap would have the noose at 1/4 inch max diameter right at the hole in the upright with the weight setting on the ground he simply don't have this set right
