This a video on how to employ light weight yo yo traps for your survival bug out kit. They can easily be setup in many configurations and are extremely lightweight for the amount of food they can produce. This is a must have item for your bug out and kit and one of the many techniques we teach at Sigma 3 Survival School.

I will make a video in the future about how to make a yo yo jug set. But these things are absolutely stupid proof. Just go buy yourself one at your local hardware store. Cost is usually 2-3$. You attach your trot line to the top hole next to the trigger. Add your line and baited hook to the end of yo yo cord. Set it at the depth you want and it is ready to go. Easiest thing in the world. Keep an eye out for that upcoming video! Thanks!

Lots of people carry a survival kit of some sort on them at all times, people who like to be prepared and not rely on someone else to get them out of a bind. Also, I highly doubt anybody gets on a plane with the desire to crash. Thanks for that highly intelligent, well phrased question, though.

For something really small such as large rats. They might work on something as big as a rabbit. I would be worried the animal would completely trash the thing. But in theory it would work exactly like a spring snare. In fact the end of the line already has a clip to make a ready made snare. I may give that a try. Good idea

Probably one of the most overlooked yet valuable survival items available. They're cheap, lightweight, can handle large fish, and have a ton of uses. You can make animal snares for small game, use it as a clothes line, a trip wire for some sort of camp alarm. There's no reason not to have a few.

@msungs I mainly use small hooks for this trap to catch smaller fish. It will catch larger fish but less effectively than small fish. You add a length of monofilament around a 1-2' long so that the fish doesn't get wary about biting it. The leader is stronger but fish won't bite it in clearer water. Its much more effective with the monofilament!

These are great, I would suggest that you buy the very small gold colored hooks, I've caught fish often without even having bait on them. So if you use bait and it falls off or is taken, the gold hooks will still act as a bait for bluegill.

@msungs for what size hook, it varies on the fish you are trying to catch. Try researching on it. For how he attached the hook, it doesn't really matter, but if you attached the snap-swivel directly to the hook, its more stronger than attaching it to a line tied to the hook.

only issue where i live there are pike everywhere and they'll take a perch on a line like this in a heartbeat. since there are lakes everywhere and most of them contain pike, perch, and walleye in abundance and close to shore i'd use pack rods seeing as they're such a staple. small pack rod with a shimano 1000 won't weight more than 12-14 ounces and can land up to 10 pound fish easy.

First, Thanks for posting great videos! Second, I've noticed that you have problems with sound. may I suggest using a lavalier wireless microphone system? they work with most video cameras these days, and when you get further away from the camera (and its mic), your vocals won't drop off. (I've seen them on amazon for $10) Again, Thanks!

I've caught tons of fish like this with just a drop line, no yo-yo. Of course it took 2 hours to run the lines and re-bait all the hooks with a boat. At night of course for catfish. Good 'ole Lake Leon in Texas, 28,000 acre foot.

whats even better is take that bluegill you caught and gut it and cut the head off. toss the guts in the water and set the trap with the bluegills head on the line. leave it overnight and you'll get a catfish easy. don't need the yo-yo for the catfish they hook themselves and they will normally stay on the line.

It is illegal to use these in some areas. That said, this is a survival video aimed at gathering food in a SHTF scenario: in that case, the game warden is likely to be the least of your concerns. If he's even out in the woods, likely he's hungry too. When it truly IS SHTF time, everybody will get splattered at about the same time ... law enforcement included.

Erron and stigma your both wrong on this fishes id its a green sunfish or a warmouth sunfish both of these fish are in the genus lepomis by the shape of the fish and its finnage its a sunfish by the size of the mouth gap its won of the two either way its a species of sunfish closely related to bluegill erron might be right cause some parts of tthe country call warmouth rock bass but to be correct most people call them warmouth also true rock bass live in moving waters with rocks hence the name rock bass like rivers this fish was caught in still water have a good day I subscribed
