I always tell people asl is so much more then just signing with your hands, it's facial expressions and body movements. It's a very expressive language and if a person signs with a deadpan face and no emotion in the signs it's much harder to interpret what they're signing. I can say with confidence most people who are hearing and who don't have toes to the deaf community don't know what a beautiful language asl is because I myself didn't know till I had a deaf daughter and had to learn asl for her and honestly I fell in love with the language. Personally I think everybody should be taught asl or their native sign language if outside the U.S. at a young age. There is so many uses for it for hearing people (yelling at you kids from across the room without raising your voice, communicating with people through windows, having more private conversations of the occasion calls for it infants can learn signs before they can verbalize and so much more) but it would also just make this world so much more inclusive towards those who are deaf or hard of hearing. For anybody interested in learning this beautiful language without having to go to college or pay for classes look up Bill Vicars here on KZbin, he's easy to follow plus you learn the entire language including grammar not just the signs. His videos are also 100% silent (he uses a computer screen) so you can watch them anywhere. He's also an actual Deaf teacher so he knows what he's fully and is fully backed by the Deaf community (at least those that I know).
@Dutch3DMaster
@Dutch3DMaster 3 жыл бұрын
Yea this . It's slightly annoying sometimes that it's mistaken for "being overly expressive" while that is exactly what people who need to use sign language need for the simple fact that certain signs can mean the exact same thing but it's the emotion (for most people using sign language another form context) used along with it that conveys the right message. I can recall the parents of a classmate of mine who were both deaf getting into an argument once about who would do the grocery shopping and not only where their facial expressions superclear, the way they used certain signs along with their total body language were as well, they were much, much more obvious than in a regular conversation.

Omg...This made my dreary rainy day infinitely better. That man has some naturally great moves. I've lived in Georgia all my life and watch him when the Governor holds his press conference, he pulls you in by just watching him...It's distracting in a fantastic way, you can't help but watch and you can see he takes absolute pride in what he does for those who can't hear...I'm partially deaf and just started learning to sign...He's absolutely amazing!!!

We were blessed enough to be right above the hearing impaired section at a Bruce Springsteen concert and I've seen Bruce 13 times but that time was the most AMAZING, watching the lady signing all of his loooong songs and the hearing impaired group going wild. It was so dang cool!

Fun fact: interpreting is the hardest neurological task the human brain can do. That’s why bilingualism is only the first baby step into learning how to interpret. I’ve been an interpreter for 30 years and I’ve taught interpreting for 20.

First off... I absolutely adore this man! Not just that he’s helping include those with hearing issues but that it’s sincere. He’s not mocking anyone. He’s not patronizing anyone. He’s simply doing all he can to help ensure as many people as possible can enjoy the show! But as a quick mention... this video shows what is actually at the heart and soul of people with outbursts of ignorance. That trigger: for the jackass to see someone they deem lower than them as they enjoy life! It might sound dramatic... but my reply is simply see for yourself!

@Alphacentauri819

@Done 8387 why? What is your view on imagining a life without hearing, living in a world that is cut off at times due to the inability to hear and experience life as others do? This basic sense, that so many take for granted. As a medical professional, and a grandparent to a child with hearing loss, I applaud things that create a more inclusive and full experience for others. That matters. Empathy matters too...examine that.
@Alphacentauri819
@Alphacentauri819 3 жыл бұрын
@Done 8387 that’s a lot of arrogant/ignorant assumptions there. While world news, scientific advancements etc matter...the way that media uses information to stimulate a heightened threat response gets old. They fixate on an incomplete story, painting with highlights of threat and negativity, in an imbalanced fashion. The way the media is used in an almost weaponized fashion and to garner more ratings...vs non-biased factual and complete reporting, is old and tired, and frankly unethical. Btw, I don’t dislike videos 🙄 I rarely watch news anyways as most sides are biased and don’t help me be better either way. So, yeah when it’s so imbalanced...i do tend to be drawn to something that’s not catering to the inane realms of our society. Little secret...most people are incredibly afraid of death, most news feeds into this fear, whether directly or indirectly. It’s powerful. I already know I’ll die, I know we have little control. I’ve seen people die, I’ve faced my views on it. So why...if we all die and have little control (although tons hang on to the illusion of having more control than they do), would I want to keep ingesting the thing I already know? 😂 The world is unpredictable, hard, bad things happen, we all die. I get this fully. I don’t need the incessant reminders of it & being conditioned of what to fear next. If that’s your cup of tea, indulge, by all means. Just know that many of us enjoy a reprieve from the collective fear riddled insanity of our culture.
