Sign of the Moon…no offense but there is a reason, multiple, actually, why people don’t like you. Whether it’s because you derail the arc’s plot or ignore the character arcs of our protagonists or because of every terrible new thing added to the Tribe and Ancients, there’s a lot of reasons for someone to dislike you. And yet…there are some things embedded inside this book that I really love, as well. Maybe we need to take a closer look.

I only stopped reading at this book because my copy (from a boxset) had a printing error in which 10 pages were missing and in its place were 10 repeated pages I'd literally just read lmao

Theory: Rock was the founder of the Ancients. He hated the mountains, and so gathered cats to live together. Their names were just one word, like the Sisters' naming methods. He did this long before the time of Jay's Wing. At least two centuries before. Also, maybe Crookedstar's appearance teases a possible Super Edition about him!

Honestly, I don’t really like the Tribe’s inclusion in the series as well, not just the arc. It’s confusing, and while it did have some interesting moments, it’s also a bit boring to read about. And I was skeptical about there being a new group in the mountains from the start, because Stormfur literally had no reason to leave RiverClan once the Clans made the Great Journey. And even if he did have his reasons, did he forget that he still had Mistyfoot in that Clan? His mentor’s sister? It’s not like he was completely alone there, and what exactly could the Tribe or Brook offer him? And also, the Jayfeather and Half Moon romance makes no sense to me as well. Jayfeather’s always been sharp and independent from the start. And altering his character this much, just for the Tribe sideplot, even contradicting his words in Long Shadows is just frustrating for me to read about. This small part of Jayfeather isn’t the Jayfeather I’ve known in Power Of Three or the beginning or ending of Omen Of The Stars and I really don’t like it.

Honestly, the problem with all of the plot beats being introduced and never paying off is very consistent in the series, and I think is at least partially the fault of the books being written simultaneously by different ghostwriters who have admitted they don't talk to each other about what they're doing. That was how Animorphs, Goosebumps, and the Sweet Valley High books were done, but the difference is that those books are largely episodic, so it's not as big a deal. Plots introduced in one book are resolved in that same book, or if they aren't (such as in Animorphs) it's because they're larger, series spanning conflicts that are actually being kept tabs on by the editorial team. But because warriors is a sequential series, it is done a massive disservice by being written in this manner.
