As a longtime user of Signal, knowing many who use it for high-level of intel- I think France's approach makes them vulnerable and hearing Meredith's "commitment" assures me of what I have believed all along. There is no easy way of getting verification, or reporting criminal acts to remedy the situation. Many sites target entire countries or IP address groups instead of individuals posing threats. Financial institutions allow vulnerabilities when they can charge account holders. For example check verification a pps may not actually verify the existence of the check account. Some financial processing firms block authentic credit card transactions confusing the card owners.

Every phone has a backdoor unless you root it.

A backdoor can be in single a line of code amongst millions of lines of code that make up an OS (Android, iOS, etc). I'm sure you have read every single line of code of your rooted phone and know 100% there are no backdoors.

having back doors for private messaging apps to crack down on extremism doesn't make any sense unless you support communism now public social media is different, since you put stuff out in the open, and that's actually the most common way how individuals become radicalized, they come across public accounts and public videos through algorithm
