"These memories are mine now." To me, the game's thesis statement comes from the note right before the Falke fight. People do not own themselves. You are not human you are a Gestalt, a parts of a greater whole. The state can copy your brain an mass produce you based on your utility. Not even your own memories are truly yours In this world, loving someone is an act of rebellion.

Well said! I really need to playthrough again. This is what I unearthed on a single play. Your thoughts reflect a bit of what I considered after the credits rolled.

Oh! Your comment on the movie Body Snatcher (which I haven't watched, yet, but Soylent Green was on my view list this year, so maybe I'll take that one up, too) reminded me of "Devilman: Crybaby". I really cried my eyes out on this anime, but it touched me on so many levels that I immediately went to the internet to research whether others also saw this series the way I did. The older I get, the more interested I am in the emotional coping mechanisms we have for sorrow and loss. It is a fascinating journey what people can be inspired to create so that others feel connected through art, music or video games.Genshin Impact and both Nier games also have many instances where grief and loss play a big role, and they teach in many ways the beauty of being human and full of emotions. And damn, I can't believe that nobody ever reimagined Parasite Eve up until now! It is such an amazing game (my brother and me played it)! Keeping my fingers crossed for a remake. (Oh, and if you never heard of it: Shadow of Memories is also an amazing game from that time!)

Oh man, you HAVE to watch Invasion of the Body Snatchers. It's such a classic. I've only seen the 1978 version, but the original came out in 1956 I believe... and there was a remake in the 90s that was apparently just "okay". I've never seen Devilman, as I'm not too big on anime... but I do want to sort of get into a bit more of that. The way we cope with loss and sorrow really is quite human. And yes, connecting art to grief is a truly amazing and impactful thing we do. I don't know if you've ever played Spiritfarer, but that game is entirely about death disguised as an Animal Crossing/management sim. It's sort of crazy. OH and PLEASE don't get me started on the robots in Nier: Automata.... I'll lose it T__T REMAKE PE RIGHT NOW SQUARE!!!! COWARDS

XD Oh, too bad that you do not like anime. Is there a reason for that? Since there are so many different genre and ways of animating, that surprises me. :) Will check out the Body Snatcher movie! :) No, did not play Spiritfarer, yet, but that sounds awesome. I love things about Death and it is something need to check out. :) Thanks for the recommendation. Now I'm off to shop. LOL @@thegamersician

I wouldn't say I don't like anime- I just haven't really vibed with it in a long time. As a kid I watched Macross, DBZ, all that Toonami stuff... but less so as I've become an adult. I loved the Castlevania on Netflix (at least the first two seasons, gotta watch the latest ones still) and I have definitely enjoyed Attack on Titan as well. Just need more exposure... so I'll have to give some of these a watch...Give me your top 5!

Great video. Signalis is such an awesome game and I really like seeing how people interpret it's story and characters. I got the memory ending on my first play through but I'd say that promise is my favorite.

I've heard from reviews it's a good story if you're into cosmic horror but I didn't care about the reviews the only reason I got the book in the first place was signalis I just loved the game so fucking much I just wanted to get the book to show my love of signalis to hold the book and hold it close to me like I'm holding a piece of the game close to my heart ❤️ 💙

Hey Raccoon- thank you SO much for this in depth conversation on the endings. I did in fact read every word, and I think we align almost entirely on our viewpoint. I mentioned in the video that it only reflects the player's choices, which means that the ending is already "settled"- it's almost like they're epilogues. The "ending" happened with the confrontation with Falke and Adler. The arc is complete, now you get to see how your impact on Elster plays out. To that end, none of them are happy, or better- they all sort of sum up to the same thing, ultimately. It is how we interacted, strategized as, and empathized with Elster. And yes, the "happy" ending seems to be an eternity of misery for everyone else, so how happy is it? I think Artifact reflects the human being tendency to be selfish, and choose those close to themselves over everyone else. Again, appreciate the view, the awesome comment, and the conversation! Have a good one, and we got lots of great content coming up in November.
