5:18 if you change that B minor cord to a diminished cord, it will fit nicely with that half step whole step scale. Or, the half step whole step scale. since you are starting on a B diminished cord.
@davidasher225 күн бұрын
The B octatonic scale (also known as the diminished scale) includes B minor, B major, and B diminished. That’s the beauty of this scale-it offers a wealth of non-diatonic chord combinations, allowing for endless creative possibilities. The notes of the B octatonic scale are: B, C, D, E♭, F, F♯, G♯, A. • B major: B, E♭, F♯ • B minor: B, D, F♯ • B diminished: B, D, F
@davidasher225 күн бұрын
It’s actually the Em and C# chords that make it not fit into the B octatonic scale

Nicely explained. When I flesh out further, I may leave space to bring in random riffs which may only appear as the original idea grows. Nothing is set until I have a progression I like and then I may work arrangements, again, leaving random slots to throw in unexpected things. I like to mix it up. Great vid.

Hey Jake! Not sure if this will get buried in a sea of comments, but I've been a huge fan of your channel for years and you've honestly helped me break a lot of habits I've had, and now I can proficiently write music. I was curious if you ever considered doing a series for lead guitar. I understand the scale aspect, but I think something for speed, two-handed, and knowing how to navigate the fretboard and develop interesting patterns would be helpful! If not, I'm definitely open to any resources you could suggest. Thanks again for all your help over the years! :)

I like to write that rhythm as 4 quadruplet over the space of 3 beats. Kind of the opposite of a triplet. It’s more complex to figure out, I know, but I enjoy the clean look on the page.

@SignalsMusicStudio Hey Jake first song is really similar to the Nil by Mouth by Haken :D. Keep up the best music content on KZbin!

I think I probably use this technique subconsciously whenever I create music. I mean if I like an idea in my head it's probably because it's similar to some piece of music that I like. Most of the time I can definitely name the songs that impacted that song the most. This is a great way to get out of a rut.
@naserazarnejad2286 күн бұрын
2:12 It's Half whole diminished scale that has one mode or variation: Whole Half diminished. The last DT song "Night Terror" uses it in guitar solo section. Another example is Haken's "Visions" also in keyboard and guitar solo section.

Very cool. The 2nd track reminded me of some of Pete Townsend's compositions once he got that ARP. Eminent Front, Baba O Reily_ that sort of thing. Also, I know you get a lot of comments but I commented on your last video about double tracking bass with the wrong song name. The Faces tune I was reaching for that opens with doubled bass is 3 button hand me down. Not that it really matters but I figured I'd mention it.

Hey Jake, It's been a while! That metal track is magnificent! Any chance you could break down how you went about writing the solo too in more detail?
