My other Outlander videos: • I Was An Eagle (Claire...
**This video contains spoilers for 3x05**
"I see signs now all the time / That you're not dead, you're sleeping / I believe in anything / That brings you back home to me."
I know there's already a staggering number of circa-2010 fanvids out there that have paired this song with a lot of other fandoms, but when I was listening to it in mid-August I realised that it's absolutely perfect for Claire's POV during her time away from Jamie this season and I immediately started editing this video to explore my own interpretation of the song. I've worked on it every week since and I have really enjoyed it, especially as this video gave me the chance to explore a lot of footage I haven't featured in my vids before (namely Bree!!!). I am really loving the way they've adapted Voyager so far.
Also, I'm drawing very close to reaching 4,000 subscribers, and I just wanted to say a huge thank you to you all for your support and encouragement and feedback over the years! I'm well aware that I owe much of this figure to the continuing support of Outlander fans (amongst others, of course!).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
VOICEOVERS
"You have had an extraordinary adventure, Claire. Extraordinary! One that few people could even imagine. Treasure it."
"I just want to know. I just need to know if he really did die on that battlefield."
"Don't spend the rest of your days chasing a ghost."
"How did you do it? Finally say goodbye to the one person you loved most in all the world?"
"They're gone and you have to go on living without them, because that's what they would want."
"Why are you doing this?"
"I'm doing this because it's the truth."
"This is what Mrs. Graham warned me about - spending my life chasing a ghost. To all of those we have lost."

I also want to say I love how you tell a specific story with each of your vids. Like a lot of times when people vid ships they try to cram in all the good kissing and romantic scenes in but this video is very specifically about the storyline Claire and Jamie are going through right now. I just really admire the restraint and focus in that, it's pure storytelling and what I think all vids should be.

Honestly I cannot begin to express how much this comment means to me? Wow. I think this comment ties right in to what we were talking about with Faayza when you came to visit, about how we're trying really hard to work on our storytelling in our vids. I think this vid is definitely an example of my attempt to do that, and I am really moved by the fact that you admire what I've achieved here. Reflecting back on it, it is so clearly story driven. Like, while it is a Jamie/Claire video, I didn't depict any kisses, or even any scenes where they occupied the same frame (besides the Culloden Moor sequence), and I think that was very much motivated by my desire to focus on and prioritise the story as it currently stands, and to reflect this in the way that I edited and assembled this video. I'm trying to find new ways to explore this show now that I've made so many Outlander vids, so it's extremely rewarding to get a comment like this. Thank you so, so much

I've known of signs for around 4 years now; its a song I always come back to because its just an otherworldly one to me. I can never describe the feelings I often associate to it but its a very important song to me, and I always want to listen to it when I want to unwind after a day. Surprisingly enough (or at least not so surprisingly I guess) until now I never saw anyone use it in a music video, at least for the fandoms I was a part of until you made this. And I must say, I was completely surprised and happy when I found this because the song really does mean much. As always, I never know where to start when I talk about your videos because I just love everything about them. But I'll try from the beginning. I adore the opening dialogue between Mrs. Graham and Claire, as well as the scenes you put it over of where it basically shows them searching for Jamie. I have to especially note here that that specific dialogue is one of my all time favorites because despite Frank being close to Claire during those first days, it was understandably much easier for Claire to confide in someone who not only predicted her journey but also is the most likely one to believe her. The way she talked about Jamie to Mrs Graham gets me every time because you can easily see from such a small interaction between the two of them that he was such a big part in Claire talking about what she went through when coming back here. I wish we got more of that, even though it would easily break my heart. Anyway, back to topic. I loved how you used shots of Claire during Bree's pregnancy/right after coming back from the past around in the beginning, along with the lyrics "but I'm the one that's drowning now", as well as her seeing the dragonfly in amber when the song goes "I see signs now all the time", an incredibly perfect placement. Also love the small detail of her opening and then closing all these books and notebooks while looking for Jamie. The part where you have that exact scene of Claire dreaming of Jamie while the lyrics "cause in my dreams I see you again" were just HEARTBREAKING, and too well done, that placement was really spot on and it took my breath away. Also the intersecting scenes where her and Jamie see visions of each other while "it was unlike you to visit me" played was too much. The jingle sounds that come right in the middle were divided perfectly, crossing from shots of Claire and Bree in precious and defining moments with each other to the battlefield scene where Jamie sees a vision of Claire. That specific part left me completely speechless, I don't know how you managed to think of that but it was too gorgeous to see, especially right after the song changes a bit and it defines the second half of it. I almost forgot!! But a most honorable mention to you putting in the scene where Claire finds the fate of the battle and collapses in tears right when the lyrics are "at your funeral I was so upset". That was too much. I adored the intersecting shots of Claire coming at the battlefield with the clan graves the first time with Frank, and then the second time by herself. It was a really great parallel and it showed such a significant difference in time but also emotion. I also adored how you put in the scene where she finds the man playing the bagpipe and her holding the pearls with the lyrics "I see signs now all the time, that you're not dead, you're sleeping". Its just such an amazing thing, the placement is so beautiful and again, shows how those moments are so significant. I adored how this video just feels like a chronicle of Claire after returning from the past and her journey of trying to put aside her love and memories of Jamie and their life together after so much has happened. Then scenes from later on with Bree and searching for him, and then giving up the search before finding another significant clue. Its just such an amazing video to be dedicated to that. The ending of this video, my god. Its obvious that the only good choice would be to have Claire walking into the print shop but the emotional depth of those shots along with the last jingle sounds in the song were so perfect. I adored each second. I'm incredibly glad to see this video get so much attention because it truly is gorgeously made, the song pick and scene placement is too perfect, and you only deserve the most when it comes to your work. I can't wait for the full reunion in the next episode and to see what you do with that and what you will make next. Truly, half my excitement for the next episode is just to see your next video. Please don't take this as pressure to hurry yourself in any way though, I'll be here for anything you make at any time. Thank you so much for this masterpiece.

Oh my word. I'm so sorry it took me several days to respond to this comment! I was so moved and overwhelmed by the thought and time that you so clearly put into writing it. I really don't know how to thank you enough for your kind words and generosity. I have a few thoughts in response to your comments: - I completely agree about the dialogue between Claire and Mrs. Graham! It was such a pleasure to get to work with that scene in a vid because it's such a pivotal moment. And when Claire referenced that conversation in 3x04 I just knew I had to open my vid with their conversation from 2x01. - I've noticed quite a few people have pointed out how much they loved my incorporation of the post-Culloden sequence between Jamie and Claire into the vid. I'm so glad people have responded in this way because I had a really strong reaction to that scene and I found it very emotional and cathartic working it into this vid. All in all, thank you so much for such a wonderful and thoughtful comment. It really means so much to me to receive such in-depth feedback on my work, and I am so so honoured that you are looking forward to my next Outlander video. Thank you!

Wow, I am so sorry I missed this comment bb! I think you posted this while my laptop was broken for a month, and I've really fallen behind on my notifications as a result. Thank you so much for this comment, it really means so much to me. Also, I'm really glad that you noticed how I didn't really use any actual scenes of them and just instead focused on memories and brief visions of one another - this was very much a conscious decision that I made at the beginning of the editing process. I think I could have very easily relied on flashbacks to footage of them together in earlier seasons, but instead I really wanted to try to mirror the fact that they are separated at the beginning of season three and they both have this longing and this connection through those ephemeral memories and these objects and reminders rather than their embodied time together. I am very proud of this video, and I am so happy that you think it may be one of my best works to date. I certainly put an incredible amount of time and thought and effort into this, so it's really rewarding to receive comments like this.

I don't know how many times I have seen this already since I got home yesterday. Briony, I believe you deserve all the views and feedback on this, and some more. Your work is always impecable but when it comes to this show, your emotions just show on your editing and the way you portray these two especially well. You are always so smart about your song choices and general storyline of your videos, it is just wonderful to watch. I love that this was from Claire's pov in this season and just the feeling of longing and hope that the combination of those elements (song, Claire's scenes and your editing) gave to the video. From the "in my dreams I see you again" use of Jamie's shots to the parallels in "it was so like you to visit me", I literally couldn't hold in the tears from their beauty and love and just ANGST. I love that you brought back this song to make it belong to Outlander and these two.

I couldn't resist even with spoilers watching this and I'll give you a proper comment when I understand more of the context but holy shit Briony, you changed the way I view this song now!?!?! The amount of detail that went into this is outstanding, all the documents and small touches like that. 2:51 absolutely took my breath away just the timing and the music and shots you chose there, a truly earth shattering moment in an earth shattering vid. I just adore this and hope it gets 1 million views it deserves it

omg, Yasmin... that is HIGH PRAISE. To change the way you view this song, after the number of vids we've both seen to it? And the number of times I imagine you've heard it? I'm honoured. Also, I was definitely Shook when I started editing the segment at 2:51. I had that bit planned from the day I started editing this vid (before the season aired), and it was incredible to watch it materialise as that sequence in the episode was so beautiful. I'd really love to hear what you think of the vid once you've caught up to 3x05. Anyhow, thank you so much for this lovely comment bb

what a beautiful, sad song. gorgeous editing and I love how you're focusing more on claire's grief and longing rather than the epic romance sexy times factor. my one criticism is it would have been so neat and cute to end with the shot of the bell tinkling above claire's head when she enters the print shop, since the song ended with a tinkling bell sound too. minor thing though :)

First of all: omg almost 45,000 views at time of posting you deserve every single one of those and many more not just for this one but for all your videos tbh (and congrats on the subs bb, MORE THAN DESERVED) So like I said, my music knowledge being spotty as it is, I've not heard this song before so to me it's a fresh song and it just seems to fit them so PERFECTLY (and a lot of that is of course down to your editing). The opening establishing shots you use with that voiceover, showing all the objects that are linked to that extraordinary adventure that's being spoken about: wow And then the voiceover of her chasing a ghost paired with all those moments of finding Jamie in the past and the hope every time that arose (the shots of the closing books amazing) THE AMBER SHOT OF COURSE YOU DID IT OF COURSE IM NOT EVEN SURPRISED AND WITH THE "I see signs' LYRIC HOW RUDE I want to avoid commenting on every single shot and your lyrical interpertaion but of course all of it is absolutely fucking spot on. THE FUCKING RUDE SHOTS OF JAMIE FROM 1:41 TO 1:49 AND INCLUDING HIS CLASSIC JAMIE GRIN WITH THE LYRICS FUCK YOU HONESTLY I WAS NOT PREPARED IM CRYING (and following it with her seeing him at Lallybroch in the present CUT ME DEEP WHY DONT YOU I DONT NEED A HEART ANYWAY) The transition to Brianna and those touches of her hair Claire does, the very physical and visceral reminder of Jamie GOOD LORD YOU ARE THE WORST The HUGGSSS THE HUGS I LOVE ONE MOTHER/DAUGHTER RELATIONSHIP And then, THEN, that RUDE cut to Jamie's point of view after the battle of Culloden and his vision (signs) of Claire with the softer and barely there music DID I ASK??? I love all the shots you used after, the way Claire starts to give up on finding him, the almost winding down of that story (even though she keep getting reminded of him wherever she turns) (THE NECKLACE SHOTS!!!) but then that rising hope and leading to that end and the way you just cut to black before they even meet is just INGENIOUS. Briony I just don't know how you do it, the way you have this clear story that you want to tell in each of your videos and how you always keep it so tightly controlled, sticking to the theme of the song and the idea you have is what makes your videos so fresh and interesting. Like you've vid Claire and Jamie so many times (and I am so blessed for that) but it never feels like you're ever repeating yourself, each video is a new story, a new take on them and their epic journey and I can not WAIT to see what else you have planned in the future

First I have to say that it was about time that one of your videos exploded like this one. I have no idea how this didn't happen sooner, you totally deserve more praise for all the content you bring, specially when it comes to Outlander because is harder to find videos sometimes. And WOW! This was truly the perfect song to show Claire's journey. I love how you used all the close ups and the little details in this video, and it was so nice to see new footage. I could tell you loved to use it, is just so refreshing :D Also liked how at least for me it seemed like the tone of the scenes changed alongside the tone of the song, I don't know if you know what I mean but I like it! 1:05-1:29 I think this is my favourite part, so powerful, so calm and so full of emotion. And I just love the editing and the scene selection here. 2:10-2:26 WOW! This one is so beautiful! I'm glad that you included Brianna in the video, the parallels killed me. And the flow and the movement in this part is amazing

It was 5 years ago and I had just finished the game of thrones series for the first time and going through book withdrawal so I asked about a book series that is good and someone in the game of thrones group suggested Outlander I saw the wedding episode and didn't put two and two together but thought Sam was yummy and delicious and perfection anyway I started to read it and fell in love with the series first then the Starz series I married book Jamie and fell in love with the Outlander series When I look and think about the Jamie and Claire love story I almost see my own love story I guess that explains why I'm so in love with the love story That it is it's a blueprint for me in my 16 year marriage to my husband/Jamie It's just a inspiration for me that I can have this in my marriage and have it I have to believe in this love story otherwise what is the point in all this If it's just some book for me to read why read the books I love this series and the Jamie and Claire love storyBefore I met my husband at 23 I depend on love stories like Jamie and Claire to give me hope that I would find a love like theirs so I would never give up on my dreams and I had always been hungry and needed this love like human need oxygen and water to live I didn't know love until I met my husband and gave birth to my daughter So seeing as I have that rare love true Jamie and Claire type love I wouldn't be where I am without believe in those love stories I'd be emotional dead living a miserable existence So my faith in Jesus and believe in in these love story and it'll one day happen for me is how I got as far as I have in life but just because I have this love as rare as it is with my husband/Jamie I still need these love stories like Jamie and Claire to survive and be happy it's like my oxygen Incomplete miserable depressed and lonely not to mention God forbid suicidal with nothing to live for or believe in I'm very happy with being in my Outlander addiction it's in my blood stream there is no cure in sight and I am not looking for one there's no hope for me rehab is too expensive my insurance won't cover it and there's no beds available Outlander gives my life joy and happiness and keeps me sane I know TMI but this is how I found and fell in love with the Outlander series so now I reread the Outlander series once a year every year and binge watch Outlander twice a year June for my birthday and Christmas So I have a deeper reason why I love Outlander that almost no one will never understand it brought me out of my shell and helped me find myself They call it obsession I just feel it's more than just a book or something to watch when I am bored to me it makes me happy and keeps me sane And the love story has more importance for me If it weren't for my belief in love stories I would have killed myself a long time ago And yes I know they are not real I just believe in the love story it gives me hope and is a blueprint for how a true marriage should be like sorry TMI I just love the Jamie and Claire love story I believe in it pure perfection really

I'm so happy that it's this one tbh as I have worked really hard on for the past seven weeks. Like with Yasmin, I really can't wait to hear what you think of this vid when you have caught up, bc a lot of it is quite specific to the way the story has unfolded over the first few episodes of the season. ALSO SORRY NOT SORRY FOR THAT POV SHIFT. I had a lot of fun editing that segment. I live for the All of the Sadness. Thank you for your comment bb
