6:10 This is precisely why I gravitate towards alternative, artsy, edgy fashion. You can make stylish, interesting fashion choices that aren't centered upon socioeconomic status, which is a futile and boring game. Alternative fashion allows you to play around, express YOURSELF, and ranges from affordable items up to high end luxury items. But because it's unique and not an oversaturated, recognizable brand, people are going to see the FASHION rather than the dumbazz status symbol of perceived wealth.

It's very refreshing to hear more people talk about polyester and how hard it is to avoid synthetic fabrics. They really are so normalized despite the impact on the planet and how poor the quality usually is

You literally *have* to thrift if you wanna avoid plastic clothes. A couple of years ago I made the decision to wear only natural fibres. Got rid of most of my wardrobe and have assembled a jumbled assortment of linen and cotton clothes all found at the thrift store. Sometimes I have to go without buying things that I am tempted to buy because they contain polyester, sometimes I feel like I don't look very "fashionable", but its worth it for me to protect my health and the environment. Learning to tell fabric content by feel is a game changer like Jada mentioned in the video. I do a rapid search through the thrift racks touching every piece of clothing and I can tell by feel and sight with probably 90% accuracy whether an item contains polyester, it just takes a bit of practice lol! And I have saved an enormous amount of money this way, it limits impulse buying when most of the clothes are not available for me. Not to mention vintage clothing is sturdier, thicker, better quality and lasts for years and years. I could go on and on. Thrift stores for the win! (the other option is buying from organic ethical slow fashion brands online, definitely more expensive than the thrift store but there are some beautiful quality clothes options out there)
@inthediamondskyКүн бұрын
even reusable bags are polyester. targets reusable bags go bad within a month, a year if you're careful and it gets added into the landfill. Like genuinely this is terrifying, esp with how bad the world has gotten in natural disasters recently.

I've always been a lipstick girlie since I was in HS during the early 2010s. My shopping shift has been towards clothes 🤔 It's fair to say I'm into the old money/equestrian fashion or aesthetic but instead of going full Shein, Temu, Fashionova or Romwe Ive made a considerable effort to hunt for Cotton, wool, linen, silk and other natural fiber clothing. (luckily, I worked at a second hand store and racked up from time to time. Even got a cashmere sweater) I want clothes that will last awhile.
@peony2353Ай бұрын
I’ve shifted toward the same. Idk I would call my style old money but I definitely now look for more class timeless pieces for main items in my wardrobe and I look for quality. I think that tends to look a bit old money/ clean girl with of feminine touch as I am a bit girly in that I do like florals, lace, etc. but not over the top. My main focus has been clothing quality in how it’s made and the fabrics used. If I’m spending my money I want it ti last and focusing on classic timeless pieces means that when the trends shift I make not look trendy but I’ll look good and put together which is what I’m looking for because these trends seem to cycle so fast and it’s hard to keep up, expensive and bad for the environment. So I just stop or will engage with an accessory but it also has to be worth it for me
@user-sg4ov7ng4hКүн бұрын

you are absolutely right about the pimple patches trend! i was teaching middle school last year and there were girls with perfectly clear skin in the morning who would be covered in them by the afternoon 😂 i thought it was a bit silly, but very wholesome as far as trends go. it's better than the horrendous scrubs and alcohol based toners that were popular when i was that age, and so it's fascinating that it's also cheaper! that's one instance of this effect that i like--i'm a fan of anything that helps girls that age feel confident without causing harm. (the other instances like temu and other fast fashion sites are much less fortunate. i hope we can steer ourselves into more trends that are both affordable and positive, like thrifting!)

This is super interesting! I think for me when it comes to the fake designer stuff why it’s interested me is because I love designs over everything. For example since I was in high school I loved the Chanel Boy Bag, and I saw a design very similar from Macy’s, so I got it. I haven’t used any of the real deal counterfeit websites, but it’s been tempting especially as a broke grad student. I do think there should be a conversation about why people want to look rich but at the same time I understand the argument. If a design is good a design is good, but if I can’t afford it why save up when I can get it now and use that money for food or rent. I also wonder if this influences the popularity of a lot of the bags that are “affordable” but high-end adjacent. Like the Marc Jacobs tote or a Telfar bag. I know neither brands are like on the upper echelon but they’ll still get love if someone sees you wearing it, and you didn’t have to break the bank for it.

One factor is definitely that influencers have been talking about lipstick. The popular thing right now is color theory and how lipstick looks different on you depending on your skin tone. The products being pushed are colorful lip balms and some Korean brands that have a different texture than we are used to.

Times are hard I would rather buy a cheaper price(fake) for the same aesthetic and save money while doing it.
