I've picked up a lot of habits living in Japan for over 8 years, some of which get me into awkward situations overseas! If you've lived or travelled in Japan I hope you can relate.

The bowing is so contagious, you don't even need to live in Japan. xD We traveled in Japan for 3 weeks, went back and oh boy.... it was hard to stop bowing... It's been about 1 year since we last visited Japan and there is still one thing that persists... walking on the right side all the time. I cannot tell you how annoyed I am when people walk in random directions and don't stick to one side. I'm also an expat, but living in Denmark, and some things are the same. Forgetting some words or not knowing really how to translate them can be a bother, or just Danishizing the language, because well why not? it makes sense in Danish. XD People also ask me to tell them about the current state of my original country and what places they should visit. I literally asked my mom to write to me what I should respond to them.

I was in rural Japan for a number of years and it wasn't unusual to go months without seeing another European face. I used to be surprised when going to Tokyo and seeing 'foreigners' there. Automatically moving to the Left on escalator's. Thinking and saying "Eh To" out loud Referring to the Ground floor in NZ as being the 1st Floor when giving directions. Enjoying your videos! I'm a fellow Kiwi too.

The bowing struggle is real. went to Japan for only two weeks and then had Japanese class at my university... 2 years ago. It took me a year to stop bowing, and even now I'll do one without realizing it if someone helps me out. My sister thought I developed a twitch!!

ermergerd you don't have bangs at the end (I like it) and yes I relate to the people taking your photo forever thing xD. Where's the shutter sound, why is it taking so long loool. Also I want those garbage bin stickers (is it a sticker on your plastics one?) It's oddly satisfying to sort bottles.

I recall some psychological study about people who speak multiple languages. It said something like those who do end up formulating a "hybrid" language in their everyday thoughts, and end up "short term memory losing" bits and pieces of their primary language.

wow... i can so relate to this. Whenever I visit home in the UK it takes me awhile to get used to speaking only english - i often forget basic words. With the trash, I remember asking my mum where things go and she was like "oh...that just goes in the normal bin" -- it felt weird that i wasnt separating stuff (where my parents live they have recyling for newspapers, cardboard, tins... everything else is regualr trash)

Happy to see some videos from you recently, Mimei! I'm glad you can/could take some time off from youtube if that's what you need(ed)/have been doing by choice (as insinuated by the "things are changing" video on the other channel), for your own sake/health/well-being, but I'm still really glad when I see new uploads form you again :') You keep doing you - thanks for being such a positive influence in the world. I'm always impressed with the attitude you have about things, and the things you say about life. I know we all have our bad days, so I hope comments like this don't make you feel like you have to always be perfect and happy and content, and make you feel guilty if you're not always on point, but your attitude has been a positive influence in my world since I've dived into your channels, so I just want to say thanks for your perspective and genuineness! Hope you've been doing well! ^-^
