twenty four people give the thumbs down on this wonderful musical expression ,pray tell me why?Go Estonian people keep your heritage share it with the world ,but don't let the cultural Marxism that is being dealt out to the world through certain interest groups such as Paideia and proponents of such as [Barbara Learner Spectre] tell you otherwise ,see what they have done to Sweden under the pretence of diversity .These groups such as Paideia promote cultural mixing while they believe in their cultural pureness.

In tears again. What they seem to have and express is lost in America-perhaps not irretrievably but for now-lost. the lyrics (found on the internet) display a profound love of place, an amazing statement of concern that justice is not being given to all, a confession of how difficult it is living in a country of long winter dark and long summer days, and amazement of their own inner strength and a loving commitment to living in Estonia (a disbelief that one could ever want to be somewhere else). Lovely beyond words. The power of the human voice in concert is just about too much for the heart to bear sometimes.

I was there on Sunday when this song was performed, the choir alone, and this second time with the singer/songwriter...all I can say is, even without a translation, the performance was beyond description...my mother, Uncle, and Grandparents fled the occupation, eventually settling in the US. As a non-Estonian speaker I had some concerns about the Song Festival.

English translation: *What is This Land?* What is this land? There are no mountains here, only endless forests and pool bogs. But the people here are full of wondrous power and the stories they sing are strange. What is this land? At one time, the night eats the day, then the day is so long that it swallows the night. Evenly they both pass along here - when the stranger rests, the local is working. What is this land? Are people here really just fit to be slaves? And who would one day collect all this pain, so that there would be love and the torture would end? What is this land where mercy is in danger? What is this land where freedom is buried in the ground? Where is the justice here, where is the court, where the worried should seek for justice? What is this land? Compassion here is rusty, rusty is the heartless bosom of shame. I could flee from here running, but something still holds me back. What is this land, that can hold on to me? And how it does that I don’t know. It does not cover me, does not feed, But yet it drags me along with it. What is this land? Can I understand it? What is this land? Could I be without it anymore? What is this land? How could it just leave all its children without a mother? What is this land? There are no mountains here, only endless forests and pool bogs. But the people here are full of wondrous power and the stories they sing are strange.

@harpuny84806 жыл бұрын
No, it was written in 1998 for the 140 year anniversary of Mahtra war(for a play about the war); a clash between Estonian serfs and German noblemen Writing something like this in the Soviet Union would have probably gotten you into some deeeeeep trouble, but the song does apply to basically all of the Estonian history

English Translation and Estonian Original below ENG What land is that? There are no mountains here, Only the endless forests and the bogs. But the local nation here is full of wonders And their songs are strange. What land is that? Once the night eats away the day, Then again, the day is so long that it devours the night. Similarly, both pass by here - When a foreigner rests, the locals do the work. What land is that? Is local person really suitable only as a slave? And who would collect that pain finally, So that love would come and end to agony? What land is that? Where mercy is at stake. What land is that? Where freedom is dug in to the ground, Where is the justice here, where the court of justice, Where should troubled turn for justice. What land is that? The sympathy here is rusty, There is a rusty shame in a heartless chest. I could flee from here even by running, But something still holds me back. What land is it, that can hold on me, And how it/she does that I do not know. It/She doesn't cover me, it/she doesn't feed me, But somehow it/she drags me along. What land is that? Can I comprehend that? What land is that? Can I even be without it/her? What land is that? How could it/she Leave all its/her children motherless? What land is that? There are no mountains here, Only the endless forests and the bogs. But the local nation here is full of wonders And their songs are strange. EST Mis maa see on? Siin pole ühtki mäge. Vaid metsad, lõputud, ja laukasood. Kuid siinne rahvas täis on imeväge Ja kummalised nende laululood. Kus on siin õiglus, kus rahukohus? Kust õiglust otsima peaks vaevatud? Mis maa see on? Kaastunne siin on roostes, On roostes häbi, südameta rind.

Close cousins of the Finns, the Estonians. Upon "liberation" the Russians deported tens of thousands of them to Siberia and then installed tens of thousands of their own on Estonian territory. But who dares criticise the Russians, let alone tell them to go home? No-one. What right have the Estonians and other Baltic peoples, including the Northern Germans, to make the historical truth be heard? None.
