Still we got to keep in mind that ultimately the British built Indian rail for 1) Troop Movement and communications for the colonial govt. 2) To facilitate the extraction and export of primary raw materials from India.

British made railways in India by Indian labor and Indian wealth for their ease of transportation and to increase their reach of control in all parts of India, it was also created to collect loot from all over the country and to move them to ports of Kolkata, Chennai, etc. from where they can sail the loot to the parts of Europe, Americas, and Australia, when British made railway they didn't allow Indians in train to travel with them, they used sign boards like “Dogs and Indians are not allowed”.

@youcometome9 And yet all of India uses, maintains, expands, and improves upon that same vast railroad/railway network that was built before 1947 by the British. Doesn't quite seem like much of a scam to me, especially considering that even during the colonial era, the large native population of India used the railway system itself, and even participated in building, maintaining, and operating the network. If anything, credit should be given where it's due, generally (if not, ideally) regardless of who or what entity did it.

@@tackywhale5664 It was not given to India by the British, it was a private investment build by the private capital for profit and built by Indian laborers. Tens of thousands of Tribals were killed from the forests of India to acquire the woods by the British troops. The effect of the railway was that millions of Indians died of starvation as it became easier for the British to export food not just from coastal regions like Bengal but from all over India

The eradication of small pox, slavery and sati can all be traced back to the British empire that's not to disregard many of the evils they did but I think looking at it as just another government that ruled India (like the Marathi or Mughals) is the best way to view the history not as just some evil empire
