Take your time and slow down when doing the Sil Lim Tau form.
And do it a lot. It's like a dictionary, it can greatly improve your Wing Chun understanding.

Very Impressive, thank you Adam, I’ve been looking for a basic step by step explanation of the first form sil lim Tau for some time now.

I always amazes me how different Siu Nim Tao or Sil Lum Tau sets are from each of Ip Man's first generation of students whom became teachers.. and then their students. You would think that if they had learned from the same Grandmaster and Kwoon in Hong Kong that they would remain mostly the same.. now that there have been many generations of students, the 3 main sets vary so much they almost dont resemble each other anymore. Sifu Adam Chan's Sil Lim Tau is about 95 percent similar to the set I practice.. from the Leung Sheung lineage.
@fernandonunez9689

I practice in the Chu Shong Tin lineage and it is the same as the Yip Man form. I think the differences are because each Sifu changed it according to their interpretation of Wing Chun. Leung Sheung, Chu Shong Tin, Wong Shun Leung, they were all Yip Man students but still their forms are a little bit different
@ShennThomas93

@@fernandonunez9689 i often wonder if Ip man changed things in the sets as time went on..over the years of his teaching in Hong Kong. Even Ip Ching and Ip Chun's sets were differrent too, but then did they learn directly from their father or from senior students? William Cheungs sets are very different like from another planet.. lol

That's cool you learning from Leung Sheung(1st HK generation) lineage. I was informed that that move set from 3:19 to 3:51 is a 3rd Hong Kong generation think.

@@game9848 in our lineage instead of the Tan Sao/low gan sao to the side / tan sao huen sao side palm strike section is just Tan Sao, Jom Sao forward and low, tan sao huen sao side palm strike..i noticed that Adam does both..so the section is repeated the first with a forward jom or jut sao and the next with the low gan sao block.

Shenn Thomas what tends to happen is that the more you do something, the more there is a tendency to make it your own expression. Sil Lim Tao is the basis for Wing Chun foundation building. Through it you continue to evolve along those principles. So many Sifus have incorporated their experiences in their forms, as such you will have slight variations in the techniques, but the principles should remain.

Sifu idk if you do questions but I have one and I feel like you're the guy to ask. I know I'm not one of your students but I do learn a lot from you so I hope its ok. Do you believe one can over train a form like can be done with strength training or cardio? I ask because I'm am new to wing chun. Began within the last two months. And while I also do other things: western boxing and shotokan I am completely transfixed with wing chun. More than that, siu lim tao. I dream about it. I train it probably 30 times a day or more and instead of getting bored its like every time through I love it more. And its because with each pass through I discover something new about it and the way my body expresses it. Up until about 4 days ago I felt like I was getting sharper, cleaner, and more relaxed in it while gaining more power with each session. And than all of a sudden I feel like I'm going in reverse. My wrist rotation especially on the right hand feels sloppy no matter how I try and correct it and there are other things hard to explain but again it's like I'm unlearning it. I'm not rushing it or getting bored in any way and I don't feel tense so I was wondering if maybe my body needs a break from it, or my mind or both. Because its not physically demanding that seems odd to me. Just wondering if you have any advice or if this has ever happened to you in any form training? Thank you for your videos and moral lessons in a lot of those videos. You are a true martial artist in all walks and I'm glad to know people like you still exist. Amituofo.

How and where do I really apply sup chi sao cranes beak block? Do you think it would be more rely on a downward fook I'm about 6ft and skinny but toned. I really want to better understand this cranes beak block and how to apply it. I've tried using reinforce blocks to get it off. Fooking and one hand traps two weeving doesn't work for me ever time. Should I improve my timing more?

How to Shoot Videos :- Siu Nim Tao is used for reference only. You can apply these tips for your any forms. Camera Positioning:- Limitation with front view Only is that when we see it on screen, it's not possible to copy as your right side becomes our left side. Suggestion / Solution :- Plz mount a camera on forehead and/or at just below neck or at forehead) so we can see palm/fingers/fist twisting from real angel. Top View:- In Siu Nim Tao, the movement and twist of Palm is not simple, so we may need another small clips of it from Top) E.g, kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4i7p6GnaptreaM Sub Titles & Voice Over:- Add Sub Titles and Voice Over for every motion, movement, where to put weight, what to feel, when to relax or shift weight etc E.g, kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5XTdZd3hdOpf5o Drone Cameras, Mirrors Walls, and 360 degree angel cameras can be good addition to above tips.

I am an exponent student and teacher of wing chun right now i feel the system is outdated and doesn't work in a MMA or street fight grandmaster Lee new this in the 70s that's why he all but abandoned it as another system it still has its uses but not only but incorporated with many forms it's useful,i loved wing chun at first but now I incorporated many styles not to tournament i don't do that anymore i even added my nations system of capoeira our fathers won their freedom using this in Brazil and it works.

MMA is sport. How could is possibly work is an artificial environment with artificially orchestrated fights? People have two arms and two legs. Nothing has changed. People have fought how they have always fought and will continue to fight the same way. Nothing has changed. Bruce wanted more tools. That’s all there is to it.

@Count Son The huen sao (the little circle you mentioned) is designed to help build both wrist mobility and strength. Wing Chun generates power primarily from 3 places: knees, Elbows, wrists. The wrists are especially important in the punches, deflections, and the chin-na. As far as your "I'm an mma guy at the top level" keyboard warrior bullshit, take that somewhere else fam. No one believes you, and no one gives a shit lmao.

Wing Chun or martial arts in general is not always about MMA or UFC, martial sport and martial arts are different things. You need to be open minded and see things from different prospective and not be so closed minded. It’s such a shame that there loads of interesting videos on martial arts and then someone says “ how does this work in MMA”?. Like I mentioned earlier, not all forms/styles of martial art is about cage fighting. Some styles are too brutal to use in MMA, it’s about surviving, protecting yourself or a loved one, ending a fight within seconds of it starting. Wing Chun, Kenpo karate, e.t.c will teach you that, but I guess people like you will not understand.
