Yes, the high vocals will be Roger Taylor, the drummer - anytime you hear really high harmonies in a Queen song it will be Roger.

It is not always Roger. Freddie had a similar range to Roger. This is high but it is not such a high note it is an A5, Roger sang there. Freddie sang loads of A5 notes as well.

On this album and the songs he refers to like “in the lap of the gods”, it’s Roger. His voice is completely distinctive to Freddy’s higher range vocals and not at all the same timbre.

@@IDriveAnAudi Of course this was Roger. The comment said, “anytime you hear really high harmonies it is Roger”. No, with the words “any time”. The comment was not referring to just this one song or album. Brian also did some high harmonies. They changed the harmonies from song to song.

That part on Lap of the Gods was Roger Taylor's (the drummer) vocals. He can hit some high notes, for sure. Those last 2 songs are a perfect example of Queen's diversity. If you heard them both, not knowing they were on this album, you'd never guess they were both done by the same band. You need to see Metallica's live cover of "Stone Cold Crazy". It _IS_ crazy. Btw, Queen's radio hits are not indicative of their best (except for Bohemian Rhapsody, of course). Their best stuff is buried in the deep cuts. You _NEED_ to do their first 8 albums. They're like 8 greatest hits albums, b/c there isn't a bad song on _ANY_ of them. Actually, making a compilation of Queen's greatest hits is redundant. They're all great, to me.

If you skip their first two albums, you will miss some amazing queen. You do not know queen. Not yet. But you will be so happy if you choose. Out of 14 albums 9 of them are killers.

This is a killer album, every song is a solid banger. Now I'm Here is a song that Queen used for years to open their show and live it is the most high energy song you can imagine. In The Lap Of The Gods that is Roger on those crazy high notes. Freddie said Roger had a Dog Whistle falsetto. People get confused on this song because there are two different songs this one and In The Lap Of The Gods revisited. This album is so well put together. It really does take you on a journey from start to finish, which Queen did on purpose and many bands did back then.

@Sherry Heim You're right. IT _IS_ a killer album (so I guess you could call it Killer Queen)🤣, but it's not even their best IMO, "News of the World" & their debut album, "Queen l", are even better.🤘

G'day Silas, great to see you digging into vintage Queen. IMHO the first 5 albums are their best, recommend you dive into all of them. Queen 2 in particular was very adventurous & sowed the seeds for Bohemian Rhapsody which came 2 albums later. All the ultra high vocals is drummer Roger Taylor who also sang lead on Tenement funster, incredible voice. Have fun

Silas, congrats on the 15K milestone.🤟 'Now I'm Here' and 'Killer Queen' are the only two tracks from this album that made it to the Greatest Hits Vol 1 playlist. Hoople refers to a band they went on tour with earlier in their career, called Mott The Hoople. Also they are worth a listen with All the Young Dudes album, produced by David Bowie. The falsetto vocal in Lap of the Gods is Roger Taylor, the drummer. Listening to the big hit records isn't always the best way to listen as many hidden gems are tucked away in a album that you may never hear. Cheers. ✌

@Phillip Harrison I couldn't agree more.(about the hidden gems). Their hits are _NOT_ the best representation of their music (except for Bohemian Rhapsody, of course). They're still good songs, don't misunderstand. I just think songs like "Modern Times Rock & Roll" & "It's Late" are _SO_ much better than say, "Another One Bites the Dust" or "Radio GaGa", yet neither of those songs got any airplay.....and that's just 2 examples. There are plenty more.🤘

In "Now I'm Here", the line "Down in the city just Hoople and me" references the legendary British band Mott the Hoople. One of the early career achievements for Queen was a tour opening for this band. It represented their first real exposure to American audiences and included some very high profile gigs appearing on Broadway...The line "Go, Go Little Queenie" is from a Chuck Berry song...

If I’m not mistaken they used to open with Now I’m Here, such a cock rocker lol. But Brian gets a great couplet off: ”A thin moon me in a smoke-screen sky/where the beams of your love light chase” Nice! Pretty sure that’s Roger hitting RIDICULOUS notes and then sustaining them at peak volume. Put him against Prince. Ian Gillian, Axl Rose, anybody. Guy had a high register of all time. But my favorite vocal is Freddy slowed down in the verses. Almost goofy-haunting lol. For Lap of the Gods, that solo is so beautiful and I love the way it comes up out of the vocals. You’re right, its one of those “only Queen could even conceive of this, much less pull it off” songs they have. Stone Cold Crazy has been my favorite punk song and probably my first. It doesn’t quite sound like punk cause no punk band could play like Queen, but oh yeah it is. Maybe a little metal but all attitude. This crushed me at age 9. CRUSHED me. LOL

Hey, Silas! Enjoyed your reaction again, so well done! And congratulations on 15K subs, that is awesome, and only the beginning for you!! My advice for you is to make sure you react to the first several Queen albums (maybe all of them if you want), but especially Queen I and Queen II. These are epic, much as Sheer Heart Attack and few people outside of dedicated Queen fans know hardly any of the songs on them! You don't need to do them right away or anything but please keep them in mind for future album reactions - you won't regret it! And for your next reaction, I am really looking forward to "She Makes Me"!!!!

That guitar!! Brian built it with his father as he could not afford to buy one. It's called the Red Special. There is a video on u tube where he tells how it was built and what it can do. I could name 50 songs that you must listen to and then 50 more and then more still. Queen is a massive adventure. Roger (drums) and Brian could sing too and John (bass) came up with some iconic bass lines. All four of them wrote number 1 hits.
