Yeah but the longer the combo is, the harder it would be to do on a resisting opponent. Im not a hardcore martial artist. Only did martial arts on and off. But could do some of the easy silat moves in an mma setting. Id suggest the "Sangga Maut" borrowed from Silat Gayong as one of the stuff that can be done quite reliably. And it doesnt even need to be a defensive move, because its possible to use it to break the opponents guard aside. (Btw sangga maut can still be countered by the recipient rotating to the right 360 degrees followed by a low leg kick from the back)

also there are many styles now like kali silat,that combine both,in the past srivijaya,javan empire, held parts of phillipines,visayas,sulu,and manila,this maybe where the Filipinos learnt some silat from ,but most Filipinos don't know that they were part of this sea empire

Silat is from nusantara, that is before the land divided by Malaysia,Indonesia,Brunei and Filipina.. Actually these 4 countries are brothers. Its just that the Colonial Empire seperates them with a long planning because theyre too strong in economy and military if work together.. May one day these countries join each other and bring the nusantara glory back.

The usual divide and conquer, low and cowardly way that "empires" approach battle and warfare. Max respect to the people's of the countries and islands mentioned herein; among, if not the greatest warrior tradition on earth. The related nations that are one in origin that live in these regions are very strong in what my ancestors in Aeoteroa call "te mana", or "the inner strength". Once again, max respect, brother.

Maul Mornie is by far the only Silat teacher that I bother watching consistently. No one else is really up to par with him in quality of movement and parsimony. Most people just do too much at once. Keep spreading the good stuff!

the most comprehensive art of self-defense I trains kempo karate this is my second year but since I started viewing the silat I combines my kempo with silat infact it is almost kempo but if you combines the two arts you will become a true living weapon

As far as I know the receiver (Ivo) does not know what Maul is going to do and altough it's not a concrete floor there are no judomats. I am in awe of the demonstrated skills of both.

Hello, Guro Maul. Mark I here. Just viewed this recent clip of SBBD from this yr 2016 in Holland. Sorry I've been out of touch. I will be back . Don't know when but we will see each other again.Still have the notes handy that I took from almost three yrs ago in Rocks ,Marand via Eric Olea when you were there conducting a SSBD seminar then. Kuda-kuda ringan (narrow stance) memang menguntungkan untuk pertarungan cepat dan lincah. Namun jika kita beradu dorong, kuda-kuda berat (wide stance) lebih berguna. Silat manapun selalu terbagi di dalam 2 kategori ini. Guru Maul, Silat Suffian tampaknya campuran keduanya. Juga campuran silat dan kuntao. Suatu campuran yang menarik. Karena di Indonesia jarang ada kombinasi seperti itu.

+InFamouzBX Brunei Silat. also Ma Phil Indo = Malaysia, Philippine, Indonesia. Since Brunei, Malaysia and Indonesia shared the same land mass and the Philippine is just north of it, its not difficult to see the similarities or influence of the Silat. Also all of the countries above have a long seafaring history, so cultural exchange happened from a long time ago.

Malaysia is the main land, the peninsular,, peoples come from the main land to those islands (Sumatra, Jawa, Borneo, Philippine, ect) and some theory suggest Malay people travel by boat going to America (through islands to islands, through Hawaii) and become American natives, you can see similarity between Sarawak people with American natives. So SEA martial art called Silat share the same history. Through time, everyone develop their own Silat, it evolved and some get many influences from peoples who come later to trade or invade...SEA have a very long history, as ancient as it can be....

Jawa peoples however have ancestors relate to early Japan, the Ainu people, when the ancient Chinese-Korean invade Japan, they drove out the Ainu. The Ainu migrate to SEA and mix with local people and become the Jawa, some still stay in Japan and mix with the Chinese-Korean and become Japanese today.. That's why there are similarities between Jawa and Japan culture if you study it. The peninsular Malay have so many influences in the past, Malay kingdoms are actually city ports, the most famous are Kedah Tua and Melaka. Things always come in and out through SEA. So there is no surprise if you see so many cultural diversity in SEA including Silat techniques.

There's no kote gaeshi and irimi nage in silat. You're mixing silat with aikido and FMA. This is a fusion martial art not bruneian silat as you title it

Rizal Djohan Locks are “kuncian” and throws are “bantingan” in silat. Guru Maul is invited to teach in Japan attended by Aikido, karate and Jujutsu masters, and he teaches in The Philipines in collaboration with Grandmasters in FMA there. They should know more than you if Guru Maul is mixing it. Silat centuries old, it to say it doesnt have locks and throws is plain ignorance.

Rizal Djohan it doesnt matter what martial arts system you learned. No one was asking. The fact is Guru Maul is teaching along side Grandmasters and Tuhons in the Filipino Martial Arts and is invited to teach in Japan attended by Shihans. Guru Maul is invited to teach around the world for more than 10 years and is respected by high level martial artists and you are not. They should know more than you if Guru Maul is making things up. So actually, you dont know what you are saying.
