💘💘💘Wow, i so needed this today! Been praying for clarity, in the midst of working a job full of noise and then being drawn to more time with Jesus in silence. So thankful for the Lord providing~ sharing this Today, before going into wk. And the Lord inspiring this soul to give up music cds, because, honestly... the best music to my soul~ is silence. 💘🙏🙏

Controlling the tongue with silence is a good thing! You can't unsay things. That's a hard thing for me to do sometimes, especially when I'm ticked off, but I'm working on it!

Thanks be to God and thank you, Franciscan Friars. I’m starting to benefit a lot from the online retreats starting with Fr Lampert’s seminar followed by Fr Josemaria’s Divine Mercy seminar. Was just wondering when and what the next one is and here it is! How awesome.

I like this topic very much, silence is so necessary in this noisy age. I often ask myself, why the constant music in department stores and elevators, surely it is unnecessary. On a personal level at least, I find the effects of this very negative.

The Saints "of old" fled to find silence.....I can not imagine what sounds they were fleeing from? Ox carts? people talking? dogs and cats? I am in earnest. +JMJ+

Was it unclear in the video?

@@franciscanfriars No it was not unclear, I was trying to place myself, "in silence", but the traffic, horns, people talking, planes flying overhead, music, electrical gadgets of all kinds, etc. I could not. I began to ponder what kind of silence the sages of old were looking for? Their everyday lives, would seem to me, to be surrounded by silence, the kind of silence I will never know because of the aspects of modernity. The retreat has me thinking, ( what did silence "look" like and "feel" like back then, what kind of silence were they looking for?....thank you:)

I was reading the history of the Carmelites recently. Some of those who fled to the mountains to become hermits did not necessarily flee from sounds or noise but from perhaps insuperable problems in their lives or to deepen their faith and spirituality. They felt a calling to be with the Lord.

@@sacredwondersmaine3310 Right, thank you! I would imagine there was some noise in the cities back then, but primarily they were trying to get away from talking and the temptations of talking to people and forming attachments with people that pose a distraction from a deeper attachment and closeness with God. So this is a special calling to be a hermit or monk. A wife or a husband can't live like a hermit because that would mean neglecting the family that they are called to raise. However, everyone can and should find some time each day to find silence and be alone with the Lord in prayer as best we can. This is very important and key to growing closer to God. God bless. - Friar Roderic
