Did I understand correctly that the wing has a service life of 3000 hours? Does that mean it must be replaced? Es ist ein wundershönes flugzeug!
@Triple_J.1
@Triple_J.1 2 жыл бұрын
Often fiberglass gliders have a service life limit due to fatigue. Typically 3,000-6,000hrs. But most can be inspected and returned to service for an additional life limit. Older Grob sailplanes could be renewed by inspection from it's 6,000 to a new 12,000hr limit. The engineers know best for intended mission, but if the aircraft spent most of it's time flying gentle, and not aerobatics, then it probably has not reached it's fatigue limit. Keep in mind, all aluminum airplanes that were ever made have a fatigue limit as well. Because aluminum has zero fatigue strength, it's only a matter of time that aluminum will fail and it's guaranteed, no matter how small the load, it only requires many many cycles to cause a crack. You can theoretically break a Boeing 747 wing spar by simply jumping up and down on it about (X*10^11th) times continuously. That's why all airlines, fighter jets, and helicopters are retired from service at a set time. Keep in mind, 3,000hrs of flying is about 300% more hours than most private pilots ever fly in their lifetime. And at around 15 liters per hour that's 45,000 liters of fuel. And this plane probably burns that much. Most people would deplete their retirement funds before wearing out an airplane wing.

Can anyone help me with a doubt? Was used because this honey-comb tissue and not carbon fiber? Is there any technical advantage using this material?

Alguém pode me ajudar com uma duvida? Porque foi usado este tecido favo-de-mel e não fibra de carbono? existe alguma vantagem técnica utilizando este material?
@ssantosramon
@ssantosramon 7 жыл бұрын

Would appreciate the English subtitles as well. Will any of your planes be at OSH this year? Saw one there a few years back. I have built and fly a Lancair Legacy but would really like to do this one as well. Several years ago I had an Extra. This Twister is Max bank for the buck! Ranger's dad

I don't mean to teach you how to work but ... - You would save time and material by cutting the fabric with patterns - Honeycomb is easier and cleaner cut with a knife than with scissors - The silicone you use to seal the vacuum bag has the potential to transfer and create disbonds on the parts !

Must be nice to have so much money that you can waste all that cloth. Cutting pieces close to size from a sheet of fabric rolled out on a table, is much less wasteful. Once you have a mold, cardboard templates are cheap and easy to make for cutting out the fabric pieces.

You can buy an already built Vans RV8 for less money and it has greater aerobatic capability than this aircraft
@Triple_J.1
@Triple_J.1 2 жыл бұрын
You can't compare aluminum experimental kit homebuilt aircraft resale prices to factory made Composite components. The homebuilder donates 1,000-1,500 hours of their time. If they had been paid what an aircraft factory worker is paid, that's about $40,000-$80,000 in labor. Then there is the fact that an RV is not an Aerobatic aircraft. You can fly them through most of the menuvers, yes. But they are made of aluminum, have very low manuvering speeds, extremely low pitch-force gradients, and are also very slippery and will almost always blow through their Va speed in loops and split-S type nose-down dives. And because of this combination of attributes, therefore they make very poor choices for aerobatic aircraft at any price. Cheap Aerobatics = Pitts S1. This Silence Twister is in a niche of its own. Elegant design, retractable, speedy, efficient, long range, aerobatic.
@2Phast4Rocket
@2Phast4Rocket 2 жыл бұрын
@@Triple_J.1 The Pitts is not an easy airplane to fly. It does only one thing, extreme aerobatic. You can fly sportman aerobatic and fly cross country the next day.
