Forty Trappist monks live in a world of silence, solitude and prayer in the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers, Ga. See images of their environment as Brother Callistus, who serves as the spokesperson for the monastery, talks about what he calls "the life."

I treasure this very much. I was in the Redemptorist seminary. It was quite monastic back in 1970's...after being in corporate world I still treasure the ascetical teachings taught by the novice masters and seminary profs. ST BERNARD PRAY FOR US!

Know that anyone hearing God's eternal loving call - "I am with you...Do you want to be with me?" with a heartfelt YES leaves the world to become one set apart, sanctified and thereby a Saint. In our daily lives outside any monastery walls, we too can then answer the second question of do we want to BE like HIM. Through response-ability and God's gracious transforming work in us a long process begins towards Christ-likeness. Be of good cheer.

We are human beings, not human doings. Working hard at holiness brings only frustration and failure. Our literal inner life of transformation will change how we love, think, speak and act but as a consequence rather than any cause of holiness. Re-define prayer from a petition or shopping list to a humble positioning of your all, still, in His presence - expect nothing and receive all God provides.

I think it's in the embrace of the world we might learn detachment. Taking that same world and all we have learned in that embrace to the foot of the Cross where all is transformed. To embrace the world in a sense is to embrace the Cross. A kind of paradox I believe. Painful at times and can certainly bring 'detachment' from the transitory nature of this world. I am not a monk btw. Just what life seems to be telling me.

Great to see Father Malachy again. Dom Marmion wrote "Christ the Ideal of the Monk." I would have had him change "Christ" to "Jesus." Names do have a special meaning. You didn't mention His name either. St. Bernard would have got on your case, Brother Callistus.

Why does their short video start out convoluted, blaring loud, talking about strict silence? The intro is a startling turn off!

Its just a bunch of people who realized the pointlessness of life and the evil of the world and have chosen against it. It makes sense
@thelepper
@thelepper 9 жыл бұрын
Sigmund Fraud I don't know if "pointlessness of life" is quite accurate. I think they realized that the point of life is to spend it in prayer and pursuing a relationship with God. And this is how they have felt called/chosen to strive to live out those things in their lives.
