European Union countries have increased their arms sales to Egypt significantly since general-turned-president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi seized power following a military coup in 2013.
Despite Egypt's poor human rights record, EU countries including the United Kingdom exported or licensed at least $11bn worth of arms to Egypt between 2013 and 2020.
Has Egypt succeeded in reforming its relations with European governments through so-called “silence for arms”?

How come you did not bring up the fact that those so called "protesters" that were being killed in the rabba square were actually sneaking in weapons and locking up people in the square so that they don't leave, it got to the point were people were calling upon the police to intervene; these were not unarmed protestors, they were armed militants. There was no coup in 2013, before the military did what it had to do there was a rebelling movement by civilians and a protest that saw 30 million people take to the streets and called upon the army to remove the brotherhood form power, and the military did the people's bidding. Middle East Eye talks a big deal about "democracy", well how about that, the majority of the people wanted the brotherhood gone and the military listened to the people; it does not get more democratic than that. Period.

“Military remove the brother hood from power” sorry dude that’s not democratic at all. All it did was remove the actual democratically elected government and replaced it with a corrupt military dictatorship.

@@Handle0108your entire argument rests upon the premise that the brotherhood was completely uncorrupt and Democratic, the brotherhood government was not Democratic at all, they weren't even making decisions through the government they were making it through their own headquarters, this can clearly be seen through their policies, they even blockaded the supreme Court so that they can get their way in case you didn't know, they were even helping terrorists groups set up their bases in in the Sinai Peninsula, that's a failed dictatorship. If you read my comment carefully I clearly said there were massive protests even bigger than the ones we saw in 2011, and the people of themselves were calling on the military to do something, in the military obeyed the will of the people, that's democracy in action, the past 10 years has made us realize anything is that a complete democracy cannot work in the Middle East and that each country has to make its military it's top priority because of the unstableness of the region, I was there in 2013, I saw first hand the mentality of those people want the brotherhood to get back into power, they were willing to do whatever it takes including killing anybody they saw on streets, those are not my words those are theirs. They almost killed Egypt back in 2013 it's astonishing how they feel to do anything, during that year they were increased terror attacks and constant power outages, that was the norm, now Egypt has a surplus of power and is even building a nuclear power plant, what does that tell you.

@@adamsaleh9658 I am not very familiar with the brotherhood, but what I can tell you is that a military taking over a government is never democratic and it’s against the rule of law. It goes without saying and it’s quite evident that the current government is much more of a dictatorship and corrupt. I spoke to Egyptians and I’ve heard what the current regime does to people who oppose it even those who are peaceful. The fact that you would settle for such a regime and look down on the ability of Arabs to form a functioning government tells me a lot about where you stand. Such a pessimistic outlook and apathy to injustice will be the downfall of Egypt. Egypt was going through a transition period and things were indeed tough but two wrongs don’t make a right and just because a government performs below expectations for a few months doesn’t mean that it’s right to use the barrel of the gun to overthrow them.

@@Handle0108 you do not know the situation here.. Egypt was turning into Iran .. it is never a good idea to mix religion with politics and that was what the Muslim brotherhood did.. please do not speak without the knowledge of the complete situation here.. it is the middle east. You can easily check countries surrounding Egypt and konw how things terribly turned out in Libya, yemen, syria, sudan, lebanon, iraq.

@@eyadahmed6578 things turned out terribly there because of secular dictatorships and foreign intervention, not religion. This is not a valid criticism and doesn’t in anyway justify coups and dictatorship. Be confident in your faith and civilisation rather than trying to emulate something that you’re not, there is nothing wrong with mixing religion with politics, it’s only wrong when it’s used wrongly just like any other political tool. This hopelessness, apathy towards oppression, self-hate and looking up to people who aren’t like you is what has doomed many of the Middle Eastern countries. A collection of divided and weak states with no backbone whose civilians are left with no choice but to make do with all the nonsense or run to Europe. There’s nothing complex to understand here, the Middle East is simple and only people with an ulterior motive make it seem hard to understand. As someone who lived in both the Middle East and the west that’s what I can tell you. If you have an alternative view then explain without resorting to and parroting the same talking points that orientalists and enemies of the Middle East have been repeating to no avail. Far too many people waste their time defending the wrong people for no gain and accepting mediocrity, instead of putting their energy into thinking about how to actually bring progress to the Middle East.

I got no problem with Egypt being a military dictatorship, the thing is the Middle East is the most flammable region in the world, so the leader has to have an iron grip and make sure the military comes first and makes it a top priority because when you are located in the most unstable region in the world, and are surrounded by people that hate you, then you have to be ready for anything at any time. Long live Egypt 🇪🇬

The truth is no body is forcing those dissidents to voice their invalid concerns, they have the freedom to say or not say what they want, but they need to realize that if they make the wrong decision then there will be consequences to ensure national security and regional stability.
