I use all the terms, Silencers, suppressors, but mostly I just call them cans. Personally, I like it when someone corrects me that the term silencer is wrong. It tells me they likely get the bulk of of their "knowledge" from the internet, not 1st hand experiences.

Used to be a litmus test, journalists responded by calling them "magazine clips" which would actually be the biggest troll job if they actually knew what they were doing. I have a bunch of cans and I came across this shitty Guardian22 can that was $189.00 so yeah the tax was more money than the can so when we did the paperwork on it where it ask for reason my dealer wanted to put “for all lawful purposes” I pumped the brakes and said put zombie apocalypse on there I heard somewhere someone did that before and it got approved she was I could tell almost mad like I was wasting her time but sure enough 5 months later it was approved and when she called me I was expecting a denial but she said Derek they either couldn’t have possibly read that part or you got a cool examiner. On the other hand since I’ve had a form 1 denial because she misspelled short barreled rifle they threw it back we meaning she fixed her spelling and they approved it like 2 weeks later so flip that bogered up penny again and those are your chances. I live in Kentucky and know a couple of Cletus’s you aren’t a quarter as bad as they are 😂

"to restrain from a usual course or action" - But suppressors don't restrain the gunshot. It still goes off and it is still loud. In many cases loud enough to still not be considered hearing safe. That doesn't sound restrained to me. If you're claiming that the attempt to suppress the gunshot is enough to call them suppressors, then you're also arguing that the attempt to silence a gunshot is enough to call them silencers. Additionally, in many countries the exhaust mufflers are called silencers despite the fact that the exhaust is not actually silencer. It's not silly at all, so there's zero reason to call it silly.
