Thank you, what a lovely comment! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I hope you enjoy my new #SundaySafari series which I hope combines the voice and images in the same storytelling way.

Mdina was only called the silent city when the British ruled Malta from 1800-1964. During that time period Mdina was inhabited mostly by old noble families, some artisans and the clergy. It picked up population when the nearby suburb of Rabat was used as a refugee centre during the Second World War. After the war Mdina returned to its silence and property at the time was not so expensive there. It only became a tourist centre when tourism started being developed especially after the island gained independence in 1964. Ever since that day Mdina has stopped being silent and its property is one of the most expensive in the Mediterranean.

Mdina is one of those places in Malta that when you visit you can't help but be caught up in the almost spooky atmosphere of the deserted streets imagining the incredible history that has walked through them.
