Don't let the turkeys get ya down, I'm pretty sure that 'stain' is intentional. Think about it; the camera is moved in that instance. Players don't control this camera angle. The Devs could have looked at that outfit in any angle they wanted and they chose the one that makes the dark spot of the flashlight look like a stain right over the spot she'd been stabbed in.

When you enter the bowling alley during the day, James offers Maria to stay outside and wait for him. She says she doesn't care and will go in too. They have some sentences also on why he would he would want her to wait outside, and he says that he had a hunch that she wouldn't like it. Obviously a reference to the original where she said she hates bowling. When James enters the theater through the broken window, Maria waits outside and says that she doesn't like theaters anyway, a reaction similiar to the one about the bowling alley in the original. After she says that, James kinda looks over his shoulder and hesitated for a second. His hesitation to me kinda felt like he had a Deja-Vu moment. These two scenes and the inclusion of the glimpses of that past made me think that James had to relive that whole game over and over again, with the Remake being a repeat of the past, the original. Hoped that they would've played more into that theme

I think Bloober's subtlety with "is it really a retelling of the story or a continuation of the original" is teased to you pretty well. Most details hint to the game being a continuation but leaning into it too heavily may have not serviced newcomers to the game super well

The chainsaw animation is a reference to texas chainsaw massacre and he does it fairly randomly, it's not a pyramid head thing. He has another one where he strikes a pose with the cainsaw. Both animations were already in the original Silent Hill 2

“I’m Johnny, one hot guy.” is a reference to The Shining, where a boiler fire destroys a luxury resort hotel. The ‘Johnny’ is a reference to “Here’s Johnny!” from the movie, when the father loses his mind and hunts his family. Bloober took artistic inspiration from the Overlook hotel in the remake, modeling some areas after this, like the staircase.

My thought about the many dead Jameses, is that some of them were a representation of James' previous attempts to find Mary, as if he's been trying and dying over and over, yet not giving up, hence the notes giving him(self) advice, tips and directions (the process of learning through trial and error). Some other bodies are Eddie's doing, as you find out when meeting him before his fight.

12:00 The crimson and white bouquet is also mentioned at the very beginning on the flower shop memo. About a man that ordered one with those two colors and they told him it was bad luck but he said he'd come pick them up later. For some reason that little detail stuck with me so I remembered it when I saw the picture and wondered if the bad luck thing was in reference to those executioners. Also just thinking the memos are about James.... why would he choose those colors? Was it subconscious or accidental? Then you hear Mary's message before the final fight he brought her flowers but she got mad at him.

I didn’t think about the argument and the flowers. Very cool observation! I was thinking it was a reference to Henry T. bringing Eileen the flowers at the end of SH4 - they were red and white as well (had to look at the ending again to make sure). Just thought it was possible with all the other SH4 references. But I think your theory is probably more accurate.

I interpreted as more of an allegory for James’s struggle between his idealized version of Mary as Maria (red flowers) and the reality of Mary (white flowers). He would come back to pick them up as in returning to silent hill.

During the clock puzzle, you can look to the side of the clock to see smudged writing on it. This is probably a reference to the original as the riddle is written there in it.

The hole in the wall is a reference to the hole in the bedroom in Woodside Apartment. He does the chainsaw pose in the original game as well as it's a reference to Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The pistol was most likely belonged to Eddie's father. The nurse outfit could even had been a reference to Lisa Garland from SH1.

Idk if anyone's covered this yet but I noticed at the start of the game you can spin the camera around to see James'face. Towards the end of the game when you spin the camera around James moves his whole body so you can't get a clear look @ his face. It's like he doesn't want to look at himself anymore

Just finished my first play-through of Silent Hill 2. When you first get the map for the Lakeview Hotel, it's all clean and nice. After the transition to the Otherworld, the map becomes dirty and has burn marks. Showing what really happened to the hotel after James and Mary left. Also, James has some dark circles around his eyes near the end of the game. Showing he's tired after what he's gone through.

14:56 I wouldn't say that's Laura Playing The Piano. The notes are explicitly the same notes as from Magdalene from SH2 and used in the Remake for after the Pyramid Head Hospital Chase. While a lot of songs in this use the same theme, like Forest, Magdalene is just those notes exclusively.

the nurse outfit is more likely a reference to Lisa from sh1 or maybe the unlockable sexy nurse outfit for Eileen in sh4, the misty day remains of the judgement painting features a spear, not a sword, the team silent pic is still in the remake, its hidden behind the gated stairs near the entrance of the historical society, and the "stain" on marias outfit is just the dim spot at the center of James' flashlight beam, its not symbolic at all lmao

The hole in the wall can be silent hill 4,but in P.T. there is a hole that points into the bathroom,it's in the red hallway loop section. The door next to the hole in SH2 remake it's half open,like the first time you see Lisa, when the bathroom is half open and then she appear for a second. You can actually hear a strange sound in the bathroom,like a sound vibration that reminds the sounds design of P.T.

I know you mentioned the lost sunglasses and the ring but HOW CAN YOU IGNORE THE WALLET WITH A PICTURE OF POSSIBLY A LITTLE GIRL, BROWN HAIR JUST TURN 7 IN IT?! That was my reaction to the wallet but that just a theory…. A Game Theory! Ok jokes aside, you did missed some verbal cues when hanging around Maria especially the bowling alley, the old bar location, and the repeated interaction with save spot at the motel location. Also including the fact that if you ignore Maria while she’s holding her old outfit, she’ll mention “it’s a classic”. Man I love this.

In the orignal dog ending, halfway thru the song, the Shiba will stop singing and growl at Eddie. When I was younger, I thought this is because Eddie was a murderer. Now that I own a dog. A dog has very sensitive nose. They dislike smelly person and would growl or bark at them. That's what that was. The Shiba stopped his song because Eddie stinks.

There’s a reference to Keswick in heavens night on one of the ale pumps, Keswick is a town in the Lake District, UK. It is a small picturesque lakeside town much like Silent Hill. Also I’m sure the battle cry thing with the chainsaw is a glitch, he just randomly does it all over the place.

Silent Hill 2 Remake is an excellent masterpiece by Bloober Team, noting the fact the original Silent Hill 2 was considered a sales failure back in 2001 by Team Silent. The game is a representational artform where I believe (in my opinion) that James is already dead (or somewhat his body is unconscious) after taking SUICIDE (my theory is just one to three weeks after ending Mary's life, also by time loop). His soul is delusional and somehow trapped to find his lost memories in Silent Hill. This to either to be RESURECTED (Rebirth) or become a sacrifice to INCUBUS (Alessa). If reference to Maria DLC, born from a wish, and Silent Hill 4: The Room mythology coincides, the wish is not from James but from Alessa, to make James a sacrifice to the god-like entity that possesses Alessa. In SH4 and SH: Homecoming, the entity after sacrificing 21 souls, the entity requires another sacrifice thereafter. And James, serves this purpose, the DLC Born from a wish, was not actually from James but by Alessa. The Pyramid-head man is actually the executioner, that James is a convicted SINNER, he deserves to die. The executioner, back from the middle-ages in Europe, wears a red (suggest it was from a cult) or brown cone-like cloth (not metal in the game) head covering face to conceal the beheader of a convicted criminal (reference to images found on the internet). The wish, where through psyche-influence people: Maria, a facial resemblance to Mary (but not body figure and personality, also Maria is blonde and blue-eyes, Mary is a brunette and hazel-eyes) to make James regret his action to end Mary's life. Angela is a rape victim, to imply Mary is victim. Eddie is a serial killer, suggesting that James is a murderer. Laura is a child Mary did not have, even said, "You didn't love her anyway." In Silent Hill 2 DLC: Born from a Wish, Maria was drawn back to Silent Hill just to find that her gun and knife was appropriate from the monsters surprisedly found there. She helped Ernest Baldwin to find a "white liquid" from Blue Creek Apartment to supposedly, and miraculously bring her dead daughter back, Amy. She found herself doubting and delusional about the idea of resurrection. After undergoing such terror, and finding out that she was speaking to a ghost, but I believe Ernest is speaking from the other dimension. Also, I think Ernest is an occult member. But, he ask her to be careful about James, that he is a danger (as the cult presumes). She pursues to find him, otherwise. I believe the summoned UNKNOWN god-like entity by the cult is preparing James, and Maria is one of the objects to start this test. The dimension theory where there are at least three (3): (1) Reality, (2) Fog world (in catholic Christianity is called Purgatory), and (3) the otherworld (or Hell). James seems to be delusional and has amnesia, he is in Purgatory. His soul is searching (Silent Hill 4). For Alessa to take his soul as a sacrifice, James must kill himself by suicide. His corruption (SH4) is evident by having dirty fingers and bugged eyes as game progresses. Alessa made a way for other people to influence this (Alessa's wish). The best is ending is about REBIRTH (reference to Tibetan Book of the Dead), and the worst ending to end James life by SUICIDE where he literally drove his car to lake drowning. This achieves Alessa's wish to make James willingly sacrifice his soul to INCUBUS.

Quiet disappointed that the game has no unlockables like outfits and weapons besides chainsaw. Loved to replay Origins just because it had tons of fun stuff to unlock.

The original SH2 didn't have any unlockables besides a Chainsaw and the Hyper Spray, a fairly underwhelming gimmick weapon unless you did some really difficult stuff to unlock the best version.

In original you had Great Knife as well, even more, you could unlock Extra Riddle difficulty, bullet adjustments in extra options along with removal of noise, blood color and etc. It had entire chapter Born From A Wish. They have expanded environment, spiced it up with strange photos but stopped right there? Any changes to NG+ is entirely for ending scene, it was quiet disappointing to discover that strange photos or new play would not provide any depth. I might sound like I just demand on more, but I am trying to say that it is some kind of wasted opportunity. We are no longer in times when content were made based of disc storage or hardware capabilities.

@@realotoko The Great Knife wasn't an unlockable and the remake already has extra puzzle difficulty choices. Born From A Wish also wasn't part of the original game, it was only added to later versions of it and it kinda...isn't very good at all? As for NG+: the original didn't have any changes either. It was the same game, but with the extra weapons and the ability to unlock new endings.

I think the remake has way too much vivid colours in some places (example the bathroom with the jumpscare). In some areas it actually works nice (historical society for example, labyrinth etc.), in others it makes the game seem far less scary and depressing.

Missed a couple. 1. Dog ending James's outfit switches to the original James. 2. In the start of the game, you can find a grave freshly dug at the water's edge in the cemetery. This explains why James is washing his hands in the bathroom.
