It's the best part of the whole game. That stare made the whole thing. It's also the way he struggles to understand it when the tape stops and you can see him trying to piece together what happened in his mind, being confused by it, and then accepting it.

James looks like shit. In a good way. I saw in some pre-release material that they make him more haggard over the course of the game. Crap under his nails, muddy boots and pants, red and baggy eyes, stubble growing, his shirt bleaching from sweat. They really thought of everything.

I liked the framing of the camera better in the original. It was positioned very far away from James so that you as the player would feel separated from him after learning about what he did and letting the realization sit in. But all in all the remake of the scene is so amazing. The voice acting is a lot better.

What do you mean, the original was more front and center. The pillow scene in the remake was all dark and shot from a sort of "hidden" angle, like someone dropped a camera on a floor and it was still recording. The original was much more clear in showing him smothering her.

When he killed her his mind kinda broke down, his brain created a whole another story to suppres his guilt/grief. I can't remember if it's a theory or if it's implied in the game that James killed her just some days before the start of the game and his brain warped even his sense of time.

As much as I love SH2R’s visuals, the character models sometimes fail to pass the uncanny valley. Key word being sometimes.
