The DEimake looks amateurish and cheap AF. Just another UE5 over-shoulder shooter template, made for the "modern audiences" (*non gamers). The latest story trailer that copied the old 2001 reveal trailer's style makes comparison between the two very easy, and the iconic cell scene with Maria/Mary is now totally butchered.

James voice in the original sounds "fake friendly guy." He's trying to sound nice but is obviously hiding or repressing something.

For all of those who don't understand the importance of James voice in the beginning of the game and for those who didn't get why people are complaining about this in the remake: (spoilers ahead) At the beginning of Silent Hill 2, James's voice should reflect his troubled psychological state, but without revealing the big secret that he is his wife's killer. Since he is constantly trying to suppress the truth, his voice should convey a mixture of apathy, confusion, and depression & sadness. He would be emotionally distant, with a slightly monotone or apathetic voice, suggesting his detachment from emotions and the reality around him. However, this apathy should not be exaggerated to the point of sounding suspicious, as the player should NOT YET suspect his actions. Ideally, in addition to this apathy, there would be a slight insecurity and vulnerability in his tone. After all, he is in a strange city, trying to understand what is happening to Mary, and his genuine confusion should be present in how he speaks. This helps to create empathy with the player and mask the fact that he is, in fact, running away from the guilt and trauma of his actions. As the game progresses, his voice could become more strained and broken, reflecting the cracks in his emotional façade, as the truth begins to emerge. Thus, James' ideal voice should be a combination of emotional disorientation and repression at the beginning, allowing room for evolution as the game progresses. ----- INSTEAD OF THAT... in the Remake, at least for what we've been seem so far James voice sounds raspy and too much deep, like he is already a tuff guy without any vulnerability... A deep raspy voice in the style of a war vet seems just out of place for James' character, especially at the beginning of the game James is not a hardened action hero or a character with a life experience marked by explicit violence; he is an ordinary man, carrying a huge emotional, psychological and moral burden !!! Choosing a "heavier" voice just end up distorting James' vulnerability and introspective character, which should convey someone emotionally broken and disoriented, not someone hardened and accustomed to suffering. By opting for a deeper, rougher voice, the remake suggest a harsher life experience or an emotional hardness that does NOT quite reflect the denial and confusion the character faces at the beginning of the narrative. James should sound more introspective, melancholic and, as mentioned before, distant from his own emotions - something more subtle than a deep raspy voice. This approach could even create a disconnect with the final reveal, as the deep voice could imply a conscience or hardness that doesn't match the character's arc of self-deception and discovery.

This new voice actor for James is absolutely killing it. He really got into the role for this. The atmosphere is perfect. I don't care what the over analyzers are saying, it looks really good so far. On a good note though, the over analyzers thankfully got Bloober to make James more like his emotionless original version. Dissociation is a big part of James in coping with his past actions as Silent Hill gradually wears him down more and more.

Imho the original voice of James fits better. James is not some Iraqi war vet to have the raspy voice of 45 years old man, who smokes too much. It’s funny. The original turns up the volume/echo of James’s footsteps to emphasize how silent and still his surroundings are; giving the opening a lonely feeling. The remake has sounds of wind, puddles and ruffling of clothes when he walks. Very different feeling. I feel similarly about the tone of debris, leaves and puddles in the road compared to the original’s cleaner visuals. Gives the two a much different feeling, and I’m not sure for the better.

Most of the remake there is a "barrier" arround the character that protects him from the fog. You just see the fog mid/long-distance. I saw only one sequence in the remake that the fog goes through James.

personally i still prefer the static camera angles, at least for spectating. the silent hill 2 videos (and other resident evils etc) of that era were so cool to look at because in video reviews etc. you constantly see different rooms, angles, lighting and id compare it to how some said the sopranos was awesome because you can take a screenshot at any time and its like an epic painting shot. this remake with the tpp always looks the same dark and drab thing so i get bored even during 1 minute videos. it was the same with recent resident evil remakes. isometric camera is an art tool and decision.

what's Amazing too is that this really IS a remake in the sense that they changed a lot of what happened during certain sections of the game (i think the biggest upgrade the remake made are definitely the boss fights) So this makes playing both game really enjoyable since you are not really replaying the exact same game (as a matter of fact i replayed the og after finishing the remake just to compare since i forgot a lot of it)

They cut the line from the original that said "Does she mean the park on lake? We spent our whole day there just the two of us, staring at the water." which by itself doesnt seem to mean much, and can even sound a bit out of place at first, but it adds so much weight and foreshadowing to one of the endings. The remake looks impressive, but there are still some choices that I think take away from the experience….why cut Jame’s reminiscence? It makes it clear that he’s there because he misses her. Also why being so close in that scene? I think the OG made the right pick of being far away in the beginning to leave James’ feeling a mistery and also to portray a bit how he’s dissociating…

I’m super excited for this remake, and I think it looks amazing, but I do get bothered by just very tiny things they change. Mary’s voice in the new one, she sounds sick, which you might think makes sense since that’s how she was prior to her death. I think however in the original, the reason she sounded so well, and so friendly, was because it’s his memory of what he wanted her to go back to. These people were masterssss of their craft, and although there’s a goofy thing or two that could be changed, so so much was intentional.

Silent Hill 2 OG is clearly something unique. But they did a very good work with this remake, almost unbelievable. In my opinion, as a huge fan, it was like a gift. I felt like a hug from developers. I loved everything.

I think some stuff in the remake works, but the thing that's the roughest for me is the faces. I feel like I know what characters like James, Angela, Mary/Maria, etc, look like. They've made changes to their facial shapes so that, at some angles, it looks enough like them, and at others, they suddenly feel like someone different. It makes me do a double-take. I think the one that bothers me the most is Angela. Here, James looks all right in some shots, though in other shots, he looks off. Angela just looks like a different person. The original Angela feels like someone who hasn't slept well. Hasn't eaten well. Like someone who is haunted and worn down. It seems like they took that out of the Remake's design for her. She has an entirely different face, her hair is more filled in, she doesn't look like she's skipped any meals... It feels like they don't get why her character looked the way she did.

Yeah sure the remake looks pretty but the original still holds up artistically, even better than the remake imo. SH2 story was told perfectly, there's nothing to add or improve in that front and SH has never been about combat that's why this remake feels so unnecessary. Instead of remaking SH1, the older title that runs at like 10 fps with clunkier combat and dialog that could definitely use some improvement they went with SH2 but hey Konami being Konami can't expect anything different.

I realize that the remake developers didn't understand SH2's atmosphere at all when they removed the camera distortion inside the bathroom. That little roll that the camera makes to the side makes all the difference. Which makes me fear for the remake... the camera work in SH1 and 2 is exquisite. If the remake doesn't have this at its core, it will lose a lot.
