Cinematography is the key to this franchise's success. It’s as immersive as a great film, and at a time where you could not rely on pure graphic aesthetics to accomplish this.
@Fenrisson11 ай бұрын
Well said! The clunky gameplay helps in the immersion, but the aesthetics is what makes Silent Hill a better horror game than Resident Evil.
@Rihcterwilker11 ай бұрын
@@Fenrisson not better, they're different beasts. Resident evil (the ps1 games at least) is like a Zelda game, i used to play for the puzzles, different branching paths for each playthrough, etc... Silent Hill lacked alot on the gameplay aspect, but the moody atmosphere made up for it, to the point that it became it's biggest strength.

Your own take on this kicks ass! I love Silent Hill because of the time and space it represents for me - the early 2000s, watching my best friend play it on his PS2 & being scared together. Wanting to learn more, so we kept going, our braves and the stellar music keeping us company. That’s why Silent Hill (as a whole) rocks to me.

So this vid has not left my home page for a week, and I'm finally giving in. For an SH1 remake/remaster idea, I've been seeing first person indy games with gorgeous visuals and atmospheres, and I'm waiting for a dev to figure out that making the town just to walk around in would be amazing. Baby steps to get everything else in. We've several maps from all the games to base the build on.

I always interpreted Lisa saying "I'm the same as them" as her saying she's been a monster nurse the entire time and just didn't realize it. Not so much that she's been dead. Also, I believe the first time you actually can hear about White Claudia is the Police Station in Central Silent Hill. It's a very missable building, but you can get there much earlier than the safe during the Kaufman questline.

Can't remember where i heard it but, the fog was used as a means to enhance the ambience while serving as a creative work around for the ps1 technical limitations. Personally speaking, the audio was my favorite part of it. The only other game on the ps1 that had superb audio imo, was the team behind Re2

I have to say I really appreciate that I live in a time where streaming is common. I love survival horror games, but I am really not good at them because my hand eye coordination is so poor. I would never actually be able to finish one. But I love a good story and that’s really what drives me to consume horror game content, because out of all of the genres that I’ve explored it’s the one that really connects with me the most. Specifically the old PS1-PS2 area. People can rag on story explanation videos and streamers all they want to but it’s the only way someone like me who can’t actually physically play the game can enjoy them. Whether it’s an issue of skill or lack of access, (because I also wasn’t old enough to purchase them when they were out and they’re so hard to come across now) if it wasn’t for streaming, I would never even know that they existed. And even the most avid streaming hater has to appreciate how nice it is that a favorite old classic can get some new life and fans from some schmuck deciding to fire up a capture card or camera and play a good game.

I'm pretty sure ps1 Era games are getting more attention now than any generation before. Not to mention the switch getting ports of gothic 1, gothic 2, shadow man, enclave, blade of darkness, tomb raider classic 1-3, doom trilogy and 64, turok 1-3, along with the n64 library

I really enjoy all of your reviews :) And especially the ones about star wars games. I wanted to suggest you to do a review of star wars episode 1 the phantom menace the official game for the PC (1999) but avoid at all cost the ps1 version which was a bad port of the PC version onto the ps1. I really enjoyed that game. There also these other Lucasarts but not star wars and instead indiana jones like : -indiana jones and the infernal machine (1999) : a tomb raider-like but the best version is the og PC and not the n64 -indiana jones and the emperor's tomb (2003) I also really liked these matrix games especially the last one released in 2005 -enter the matrix (2003) & matrix path of neo (2005) I'm glad nowadays players are starting to enjoy licenced and tie-in games because I've always hated the trope "all licenced games are bad" because it's so unfair. They are actually a lot of great games, underated or even hidden gems. This bad reputation for licenced games are certainly coming from the 5th gen of consoles (like the ps1) where the developers were still strugling with 3D but the 6th gen (with the ps2, xbox, gamecube) was probably the golden era for licenced games because they released so much of them. I hope you'll cover my suggestions someday and so sorry for my bad english ;)

I always laugh when people are like, "I have no idea how people figured this out in the 90's!" I played Silent Hill when it came out. In 1999. You wanna know how me and my buddy Donnie figured out the good ending stuff? We looked it up on the internet. 1999 wasn't exactly the stone age. There you go. That's how we figured shit out in the 90's. That and game magazines (Nintendo Power FTW).

Even then the devs likely didn't expect or intend for us to get good+ on the first go and prob assumed we'd experiment on replays since the plastic bottle has no other use in the game so players might try using it on everything on the second playthrough. When you get the good ending you will see Kaufman use the aglophotis so next playthrough you might think of using it the same way on Cybil
@andrewjhollins10 ай бұрын
@@sonicsean34 From what I remember, we managed to save Cybil on our first playthrough (we were a little low on ammo and health, so she actually kept killing us, to the point that we thought there must be a trick to it) but it was finding the motorcycle that eluded us.

@@andrewjhollins yeah, that would definitely make you have to get Inventive and explore everywhere just in hopes of more ammo. cos for some reason I saw it as a melee-first type of game unlike Resident Evil where you wanted to avoid relying on the knife (recently started a hard mode playthru and am using guns more in that tho to keep away from enemies since they hit harder now. Need to get back to that save soon and finish it)

I enjoyed the retrospective I never played the game but I am curious of what you think of silent hill 3 and if it feels like it is a real sequel in its style or maybe even visuals like the reflections of what you see the monsters I'm this story the perspectives when she was a child versus do they feel connected to when she is older? Then I'm also curious how you feel or what you think about shattered memories following your thought that silent hill is the daughter's interaction and traumas manifesting and how that is what shattered memories essentially is being Harry in the world of monsters. Though I'd be curious of what you think that with Harry is painted to not be a good guy and could have caused traumas that he is experiencing in the game? Also the fact that the game solidifies the death ending of Harry. All curious questions of your opinion 😊

Specially David Lynchs work. I still appreciate the games quality, impact and creativity ...and yeah, i never thought I would ever say that, but here we go: they are ALL way overhyped. And everything else in the franchise besides the original 4 games is trash. Personal opinion, but for me it's time to let this series go.

With the Silent Hill games going for about a hundred bucks or more online and the Resident evil games being in a more moderate price range it's difficult to collect the classic SH games. This earned you a new sub, make all the silent Hill content you want. You know what, I remember playing RE when it came out and being blown away, but it was never scary because it was kinda cartoony and a bit cliche, plus the voice acting and cut scenes sort of made it a bit goofy - still a fantastic game and I loved it but it lacked something in terms of horror. I bought SH when it came out and it was a different beast - it was peeking 'round corners and turning all the lights on kinda stuff, it blew my mind and I loved it. I'm like you, I've consumed hundreds of hours of SH content and it never gets old. Many thanks and merry Christmas 👍
