Well folks it is finally time to take a deep look at one of the most influential horror games ever made. In looking to copy Capcom's success with Resident Evil, Konami accidentally changed the gaming landscape for the better with its Silent Hill series, and I think it's finally time we jumped into these amazing psychological horror titles. Do they still stand the test of time? Let's find out!

@@AvalancheReviews Hello my name is Patrick a fan of Silent Hill Games and movies. I am asking that Konami bring all Silent Hill Games back and be remastered for X Box One. I'm searching for others that will join my task in bringing this game series back again. also wanted to see the new idea Silent Hill Game to happen it had the player feel like being in this abandoned house. I've seen Rad Brad videos which I find to be real funny. shout out to Brad your a very entertaining walk through master please make more videos. and never let Pyramid Head cut your birthday cake. Maria could be the reincarnation of the wife that once had been with James Sunderland. other theories about Maria is. she is a twin that Mary never talked about. the spirit of Mary traveled out and it went into the body of Maria. the entire time James didn't realize that Maria was just a ghost only James could see. but why does Maria have memories of the wife married to James three years ago? but to have power granted to you then you'll need to get in good with the old ones. these gods watching over this ghost town. there is an animated series of Silent Hill I'd like to see that. and collect the games I don't have now. I do have a couple of the games and play them a lot. those who don't play them I recommend it. the movies could have been a lot better thought up with the script still enjoyable. a couple of unlock ending in Silent Hill 2 are funny. won't give away what they are but check them all out along with the Rad Brad videos.

@@patrickwentzell4638 konami will never give us any remakes or even remasters for silent hill games. And definitely won't make any new ones unless it's way way down the road but it won't be what PT was at all. Kojima would never go back to help with that. It sucks but konami just doesn't care about the industry of console gaming anymore.

Years ago I got to meet Clive Barker at a book signing. It was for Abbarat 2. There were not that many people and I had a couple mins to talk to him. I asked him if he had ever been told that the game series Silent Hill is very Hellraiser-esque. He said that he didn't want his name attached, but he designed the Otherworld and the monsters for the first three games. He didn't want people to buy the game because his name was attached. In SH2 we have Pyramid Head. He's just like the main monster in the short story Skins of the Fathers in the Books of Blood "trilogy". So, unless he lied to me, I thought this was so cool! Great video and channel!

Oh boy, I remember that day I took home the official PlayStation magazine with RE3 on the cover and it’s demo disc. Bruce Willis in an action game? (Apocalypse) Silent hill? What’s that? Little did I know that would change my whole perspective of horror in games and become one of the most fondest memories of my childhood. Keep up the good work!

First of all, can I give you a medal for leaving the whole "Seductive cult" outtake in the review? Secondly, on the whole subject of dithering and resolution... for me, I LOVE it, stuff like that, and having the "veil" lifted as you said, is like getting up close to a classical work of art and examining the exact brush strokes

Wow great video. Thank you so much for this. Silent Hill 1-4 are some of my most cherished gaming memories. I bought this game back in 1999 when it came out and it blew me away. It's hard for me to pick a favorite between 1-3.....but I'd say the first one is the scariest. It is a MUST to play these games with headphones and in the dark.

I think that the explanation behind tank controls is even simpler than that. When 3D games came to the scene, we needed movement in 360 degrees which is IMPOSSIBLE in a dpad, there you only have 8 directions, so... tank controls is a way to allow all directions, since you gradually choose your angle of movement with the left and right arrows. What many people like to forget is that... the original controllers of the ps1 didn't have anlog sticks, making games that only work with analog would alienate early adopters, potentially decreasing the sales of the game. N64 didn't have that problem, thats the reason ocarina of time doesn't have tank controls while megaman legends do, despite being very similiar in genre. Also yeah, i agree that tank controls are the best with fixed camera angles, which themselves are very good for horror. And also what most people don't realise is that every modern FPS essentially operates with tank controls, with the only differences being that the gradual rotation of the character is maped to the second stick. Making FPS more similar in movement to Resident evil than to mario 64. So... i don't understand why people hate so much on tank controls
@GigaDonk99
@GigaDonk99 3 жыл бұрын
I don't think modern FPS games have tank controls. What defines tank controls is that you can only move backwards or forward, and turning needs to be done by pivot. Modern FPS allow you to move in any direction even without changing which direction the character is facing. You can walk left. right, diagonal, whichever way you want.

@Davide Lombardo Silent Hill could use it. The only reason I haven't played it is because of how damn clunky it is. RE2 is great because its in the spirit of the original but feels fresh. It was one of the standouts of 2019 despite being "just a remake." Remakes can be good when they are done well.
@ninawilliams8
@ninawilliams8 4 жыл бұрын
@Davide Lombardo The RE2 remake would stand on its own if it was a new IP with the same gameplay. In this landscape, it is a new and better game. It just has the brand on it so it can sell. The kinds of remakes that bring something new to the table are just as valuable as new IP.

Good Narration, good delivery... A+ bro. love this vid!. It helped remind me why I got into the games industry in the first place. Here's my Silent Hill experience story... I was a freshman at college when the game came first came out. Where I'm from, there used to be these... "gaming shops" where they rented out playstation 1's and super nintendo's by the hour. So when SH first came out - the day it became available in these shops, there was a Typhoon (a light one) so people went about their day normally, I went to School, but around 2 hours into the day, the typhoon intensified, and students and employees were asked to go home... Instead of going home I went to a game shop located near my University. I was like 1 of 3 customers, It was freaking dark, the lights were flickering, and I kid you not, I sat by the window, where I could hear the typhoon ravaging outside. Tree branches falling, garbage and junk being blown in the street, and a light fog. This was happening as I played the game for the first time. This was the pseudo pre - mobile phone era, so my folks let me have it for disappearing for a few hours amidst a raging Typhoon. Worth it...
