Silent Hunter 3 - Mediterranean Career || Episode 1 - Gibraltar

Back in university, i played a hyper realistic SH3 campaign. I modded Das Boot sounds into the game, plugged it into my roommate's stereo and played 1x at night while sleeping. Volume on. Every now and then I'd get woken up by a panicked shout "Flugzeug gesichtet!!". I'd then issue voice commands to the crew (with some old voice to keyboard mapping software), such as "tauchen!!" to dive, etc. It was very immersive - probably some of the more fun moments in my gaming history :D Edit: i hasten to add that this was done when the roommate was out on a trip back home - I was nuts, but not cruel ;)

Excellent!! As a blind subscriber, I absolutely love these SH3 videos. It's like listening to a movie with a great audio commentary that gives me everything I need to imagine the visual element. Literally suicide the only exits being the Gibraltar strait and the Suez, both some of the heaviest defenses British ports in the world… then they would make you return to port in the Atlantic eventually, Italy temporarily.

I've just recently been binging SH3 with GWX 3.0. Started with the Type IIB? Or A? I dont remember as I'm 17 patrols in and now sailing the nimble U-47 which is a Type VIIB. Sunk 2 Nelson class BB's. One off the coast of Norway and one twice in the port of Gibraltar. Honestly hitting Gibraltar is kindof cheese in 1940-41

@@cobbleturd6978 I might but its mid 41 in my game right now. Maybe on the 18th patrol. My 17th patrol I was to sail to the AL sector and patrol a grid there and came across a HUUUGE convoy with only 1 J&W class destroyer and 3 flower class corvettes. I saved on the approach because it was getting late at night and the adrenaline rush of attacking such a convoy would have kept me up and kept me from going to work the next day 🤣

Update after making contact with the convoy. A Dark moonless night made approaching the convoy trivial. It was actually early January 1941 in my game idk why I thought it was later anyways I Digress. I sunk 1 Flower class corvette to secure an attack approach from the north. After repeated attacks I sunk 5 tankers for total of approximately 55000 tons combined with the Corvette. I now have 5700 renown saved up for the 6500 I need for the larger Type IXB. My goal for my campaign is to try as many different boats as possible. I'm skipping the type VIIC because of its similarity to the type VIIB which I find is very nimble and peforms just slightly better with evasive maneuvers.

Don't know how long you'll be wandering around the Mediterranean but from what I read, it's a lot harder to get out through the straits than it is to get in.
