It's very useful lesson. I am a Pakistani and at the school time my teachers used to teach work "Knowledge." as K-now-ledge. You solved a big problem for Asian people. Thank You EMMA

You're referring to the fact that many English words that start with "silent" letters, such as "knead", "knock", "knot", and "psychology", were once pronounced with the silent letters spoken aloud, in accordance with their spelling. This is true! In the past, English words borrowed from other languages like Greek, Latin, and French often retained their original pronunciation, which included sounds that were later silenced in modern English. Over time, the pronunciation of these words evolved, and the silent letters became, well, silent! Scholars and linguists have indeed pointed out this phenomenon, highlighting how the English language has changed and adapted over the centuries. Fascinating stuff!

Hi Emma and thank you very much for this video. I went over them prety easily but I've got a subtle doubt 😉😊 which I'd like to clarify if it was possible. It isn't strictly related to this topic but it's pronunciation. About the long sounds /i:/ and /a:/ which we discussed in this video too, how can I understand during a normal chat or speech if we are doing the right length of that sounds, please? I know we are enphasizing a bit the sounds in these tutorials but, when it comes to daily conversations and usage of the language? I really hope my question will be clear and not strange.😅 Thank you again! 🙏😊
