Man honestly next to the Bikeriders this is my most anticipated for the year of 2023. My mom took me to see Face/Off when I was nine in theaters and I've been a woo fan ever since. So I've been waiting for next English language film since 2003 with paycheck which was really underwhelming. So disappointed to hear the mixed things I've been hearing but I still got to see it the first chance I get

@@sutterkeely402 I think a die hard Woo fan like you would love this. I really really enjoyed this. I’ve said on other comments, no one shoots beautiful violence like JW. Many elements of this film reminded me of FaceOff. The childlike music playing during fight scenes. The beautiful sets and visuals. The way JW chooses to shoot the scenes is sublime. There is very little dialogue but the filmed moved in such a way that you don’t mind at all. (And with how poorly written some action movies are with cheesy dialogue, this is a blessing). If you like JW, (John Woo and John Wick) and enjoy violent action movies as a break in the holiday season, I think you’ll like this

@@MovieFileswound up watching it last night brother and I'll start by saying I do get the mixed reviews for this. Pacing issues and Kid Cudi's characters being the weakest aspects of it for me as it is others...but for me overall I really enjoyed it. Was really unique for a Woo flick that isn't just an over the top action spectacle and puts the drama and psyche and motives of Kinneman's character forefront and felt the Woo action was earned in the second half. I was also really surprised how much this hit me emotionally....I really loved it man but totally see your point of view as well

@@MovieFiles I really liked the movie. John Woo shoots action in a way that’s so visually stunning. The film had his classic elements: 1. Children’s music in the background of fight scenes (like “Somewhere over the Rainbow”🌈 in FaceOff) 2. The angles scenes are shot and lighting. No one shoots glass shattering like Woo. The staircase fight scene and the final fight scene with the gold skulls and balls. Beautiful violence. 3. And there was a bird poignantly shown in the hospital scene. A symbolic baby bird. There weren’t doves but this is classic JW.

i just got back and i absolutely LOVED this movie. loved almost everything about it except for like you said the main villain and the crackhead gf but other than that, this film was amazing. idk i am a father with a son around the same age so maybe thats why this movie had me so invested.

@@MovieFiles it was definitely disturbing that the villain and the gf were in there own doped up reality. But JW films have that quirky over the top villain. The fact that these characters are in La La Land when so much terror rages around them is terrifying. The character I felt SO bad for was the wife. She had such tremendous loss followed by complete lack of support, communication, comfort. Even without much dialogue, my heart broke for her just trying to keep going… she worked and constantly tried to reach out to her partner. There was so many layers of loss in this movie. Very relatable to anyone who has experienced tragedy in their family

i don't think the scene where playa gives money to kids was supposed to be character development for playa. i think it was for our protagonist. in that moment he really had to think about what he was trying to do and if he could kill someone in cold blood. only for that to be answered immediately by playa's thugs and his woman completely treating him like trash.
@MovieFiles Жыл бұрын
Appreciate you sharing your thoughts. I felt the character motives other than Joel’s character was poorly executed
@smrgoose364 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. I don’t think audiences were supposed to be conflicted at all about whether Playa has aspects of Robin Hood to his character. If anything, it reinforces that he’s a bad guy, manipulating children by passing out $. It’s baiting and grooming behavior. He’s hoping those kids won’t fear him and become clients. So sick. I definitely think the protagonist saw this trait and realized the danger Playa presents to all children. I also think he realized that violence doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Him taking on his quest for revenge would introduce yet another danger to the community. I thought about this when he was driving and shooting down the street… that’s exactly how his son died!

Just finished…well not finished cause it’s so bad. I just turned it off when druggy gf shots the cop. I was like no😂 they kept letting her reload. Then the cop (which really didn’t have a part) got shot in the arm…. His legs stopped working. ☠️☠️ sir get up!!! It was mainly boring. The MC kept having this dumb look on his face. Like, “whoa did i just go that, i can’t believe i just did that, let me contemplate my actions and leave myself open to being shot” dude should have been shot so many times. What was his connection to that particular cop? Honestly his wife was the best part of this movie. She just brought so much to the movie. But why did the muffle her voice? I think that messed up the movie.

I’m finding the response to Silent Night really interesting. People really seem split on it, 50% of people who hate it really hate it and 50% of people who love it really love it. I loved it, is it Woo’s best work? No but is it his worst? Hell No. It’s merely a Solid but very safe action film from Mr. Woo. This sits comfortably at 3rd place in Woo’s best American movies. 1. Face Off 2. Hard Target 3. Silent Night 4. Broken Arrow

Not the biggest fan of John Woo. I’m kind of hate over stylized action except for Matrix or John Wick movies. I don’t normally like glamorized violence. My favorite John Woo is Bullet in the Head, a The Deer Hunter like movie happening during Viet Nam War, not the usual movie people talk about from John Woo. I like Joel Kinnaman in The Suicide Squad and (spoiler)…his death scene. This is disappointing. I am not expecting much. If it has solid action, I would be okay if there is no character development or dialogue. This is pretty much Punisher without the Marvel name.
