23:25 HUGE ERROR! - I was looking at the date information only for the air attack hits determination, and overlooked that you always use the right-side column for determining air attack hits. So, this means that we were actually sunk by that aircraft! Garg!

You just got me to sign up for a copy of the 3rd printing of this game … if and when said printing actually happens. I haven’t tried to purchase a board game in about forty years, so that’s pretty significant. Thanks for introducing me to what looks to be a great solitaire game.

Ha! Awesome! If it's any help I just started dipping back into the hobby about 8 months ago and so I bought my first game in about 20 years last year. :) ~ And I think on reprints, that they sometimes don't wait for 500 games, but yeah, it could take a while for it to get reprinted in any case. I'm still waiting for Empire of the Sun, that I ordered over a year ago.

It was those darned "Snake-Eyes" which ended your career in the Kriegsmarine. The Dice Gods seem to favor the enemy.

I know, right!? The odds are incredibly tiny that we'd roll snake eyes consecutively, then go the other way (rolling an 11) to put all those hits on. But we got snake eyes on our very first die roll with the Skipjack. Made me feel like the sub was a cursed boat.

No, there are no dice gods. There are none. That is a myth. I know what it is. The enemy has a dice controlling radar somewhere. My bomber crews have standing orders to blast that radar station into smitherines and into oblivion when they locate it. I thought I found it once, but I was wrong. It was an outhouse that we bombed. The dice controlling radar station is still out there - somewhere.

That aircraft sequence was just bizarre. I was just calculating the odds of rolling snake eyes twice in a row, and it's 8 in 10,000. And then we rolled another on on the second check a few rolls later. And it turns out it that it was even worse than I thought. Details coming soon.

Exciting game.. sort of reminds me of B-17 Queen of the Skies.. also could not help but play the movie Operation Pacific in my mind while watching your game play! :)

At 22:34 - you actually had 3 hits made by a plane and not 2. You were looking at the left most side instead of the righmost one. Rightmost side says that with a 10 you get 3 hits either via air attack OR via escorts attacking you after July '43. Also, the bronze medal - I think you used the bronze medal one star one instead of just the plain bronze medal. :) Continuing looking now. I'll write if anything else pops up. Edit 1: Yup, at 23:25 you actually were sunk since on the rightmost sideof Escort/Air attack chart 13+ means sunk. :( Edit 2: If I remember correctly rebasing means you need to end your patrol not in your original port where you went on a patrol from but put out the Pearl Harbor map and follow the line that takes you from Phillipines to Hawai. No added month of patrol for doing so.

D'oh!!! You're totally right about the getting sunk part! I completely missed the little "air" notation as a distinguishing factor. I was just looking at the dates for those two columns. Thanks so much for pointing that out! That's what I'd call a "Pretty Big Error". I think I'll put out a short video explaining the error. But I think that "sunk" equals "sunk" and it doesn't seem fair to continue on, as that was a critical mistake and our game, well, is over. So... the next question is whether we start with another Silent Victory campaign or switch to the next game. I'm inclined to try with Silent Victory again, since this was so short.

@Nejc Trušnovec I'm going to try to make a short video today explaining what happened and then ask for input. I suspect people will agree with the idea of trying another Silent Victory run. I think that would make the most sense. Thanks again for pointing that out, super helpful, and I can't believe I missed it!

You could play with optional rules like evasive rules or destroyer/air quality this time around to spice thing up a bit. Just know that game math will work against you more if you opt to use one of those two optional rules and even more so if you use both. I was using both and got sunk on each of those patrols my first 4 careers and was wondering why people are saying Silent Victory was too easy while I was being sunk all the time. Then I checked the numbers...

Well, that did not go well at all. Those air attacks actually finished the sub due to the right column being the air attack damage column. Time for another SV campaign? This one was too short.

You got lucky with that 5 hit AA attack hitting 3 electric motors that you did not have 😉. Looking fwd to seeing some Japanese waters patrols out of Peral hopefully as well. Yay for Sub Tuesdays

The odds on that happening were pretty twisted, yeah. I felt like when the first die roll on the first mission came up snake eyes that it was a sign that the Skipjack was a cursed vessel. It was all going so well, too, then ... boom.

The doctor does quite a bit if people get hurt, which hasn't really happened in either of our games so far, oddly enough. And ... slight update out today that modifies that "almost" in your sentence.

Regarding the damage to electric motor three, if you don't have it, not sure how you can damage it. The wording of using the damage place mat to track damage to specific items and crew, I believe covers this, unless BGG has an alternative.

Thanks! Yes, I wanted to make sure it wasn't a "roll again" type of thing that would have been different from The Hunters. It does seem a bit granular in this game that it's damaging a specific one of your engines or motors, so I was wondering about that as well. But that's the way it's supposed to work, so all's well. :)

Just a quick question how can you be firing .50 Calibers on deck while you are crash diving? It would seem that if you crash dive you are not shooting back.... Just a thought.

Them's the rules. :) Maybe the gun is manned and they initially get a few rounds off before the sub dives? Not sure, though.

I think at the end of the cruise you're supposed to go straight to Pearl with the change of location

Yes, agree, I think you go directly to Pearl from the last patrol box out of Brisbane. I don't have the game myself though, so don't trust me on that, but that is how I would play it.
