It was the first encounter for me. Pyramid Head just standing in the hallway bathed in red light, not trying to attack you, only silently staring at you. That moment was the essence of the quiet, disturbing creepiness those original Silent Hill games did so well.

I remember that Pyramid head chase scene blocked my hard difficulty playthrough for a several months becasue he just kept killing Maria before I got to the elevator. Thankfully I figured out when you shot him a few times through that mesh fence it would stun him for a few seconds enough to reach to the end of the level.

That part is very aggravating on Hard mode first time round...

It doesn't really help that his pathfinding seems to be better than Maria's.

Actually the labrynth at the end is my no 1 too. I dont remember much sometimes in games, but i remember that. It scared the crap out of me in the dark at night. You think you are alone and have some respite, but nope. And the way he just keeps coming at you with quiet menace. Supurb 10/10 scare.

I 100 percent agree on the labyrinth being my favorite PH moment. I'm someone who got into the games through KZbin, meaning that I already knew most of the big scares before they happened (granted, they all still terrified me). However, the labyrinth was the one case where knowing made it ten times worse. I only ever ran into him at that circular walkway, but apparently there's another place where you can run into him. I somehow got it into my head that he can show up randomly in certain sections, meaning I was paranoid and terrified the entire time in that labyrinth.

Pyramid Head as a gesture behind the bars is extremely scary not when you fight him though IMO.

Nice list! Here's mine: 07. Behind The Bars: I swear I'm not doing this just to be controversial. Look, it is pretty unnerving seeing him just stare at you from across the bars. However, he's in no way a threat to the player. He doesn't even do anything threatening. It's creepy at first, but after standing there for several seconds, you start to become more curious than afraid. Why isn't he moving? 06. On Patrol: Your last encounter with Pyramid Head before the game's climax comes when James finds himself descending further and further below Toluca Prison into an abstract labyrinth. Here, Pyramid Head can be found patrolling the lower corridors. Thing is, he's fairly easy to avoid and can even be missed entirely. Still, I put this higher because at least he's doing something. 05. Rooftop Scene: I'll give the rooftop scene this, it's genuinely unexpected. It catches the player completely off guard and lets you know this guy is still very much a threat. It's also over very quickly. 04. Twin Pyramid Head: To be honest, I think this is really more of a moment of empowerment for James as a character, then it is a moment for Pyramid Head. Sure, they kill Maria again, but it's not so much scary as it is closure. It's in this moment that James really comes to terms with what he's done, why he's being tortured, and why it's time to finally let the guilt and the concern go. It's a great moment for James, but I'm not actually that in love with the idea of their being two Pyramid Heads. It kinda takes the uniqueness away somewhat. Not massively, but somewhat. 03. Hallway Chase: This is definitely one of the better moments where Pyramid Head is a genuine threat without turning into a full on boss fight. The chase isn't even really all that tense because you're character has to run from a pursuing enemy. It's because so does Maria, and she's lagging behind! The player's concern for her safety is at the forefront of one's mind during this sequence. It's also extremely annoying on Hard difficulty, as Maria is in very real danger of not outrunning triangle head. Then of course, the following scene where James has to witness Maria get impaled for the first time just adds to the feeling of loss for his character. 02. Mannequin Scene: An excellent introduction to the character. Say what you will about just what Pyramid Head is doing to them mannequins, but I fully believe that his movements are meant to be suggestive, even if his actions technically are not. Couple this with the very odd movements of the creature, and you have a rather unnerving enigma of a monster. All the while James watches from behind the closet screen... 01. Stairwell Fight: This is the best Pyramid Head moment for me. It's one of only a few, where he's a genuine threat to the player. Plus it's kind of a surprise to fight him this early in the game, or at least it was for me. The thing I think really works in this boss fight's favor is the arena. The cramped environment forces the player to huddle in it's corners to avoid the thing. While he's slow, his giant butcher knife has unexpected range. Once you know what you're doing, it's not difficult, but this battle is very tense on a first playthrough. Suddenly locked in a room with this murderous creature. Not really certain of it's capabilities. The arena does an excellent job of making this encounter feel like less of a battle, and more of a fight for survival! Granted, this could be said about half of the game's boss roster, but Pyramid Head did it first! I also like how the fight ends with you not killing the thing. Leaving the player wondering..."will I encounter it again later", or "is it unkillable (a la Lisa Trevor style)"? Surviving the encounter doesn't feel like a win. It feels like you barely scraped by!

What a good argumentation, I agree with the stairwell fight being shocking and terrifying the first play through because of how early you encounter him and for not knowing at first what to do. But it isn't my N.1 ph appearace. For me it would be the final fight.

Personally Pyramid Head behind bars is my favorite scene, but the labyrinth is almost as scary. I’ve spent so many hours in SH2, I know exactly where every Pyramid Head encounter is, and yet when I’m running around the labyrinth I’m STILL scared that he’s going to somehow break out of the code and show up behind me.

Not really. Shoot him through the bars and empty your clip, reload and empty the next clip, then run. That's pretty much it. The only thing is that you don't expect this "mini-boss-fight" for lack of a better word, even on Hard mode.

The Corridor and Dual Pyramid Heads on Hard Mode annihilated my enjoyment of those sections of SH2, I think playing on hard was a massive mistake literally just because the bosses become complete sponges and get stupidly fast and James just is not equipped at all to deal with it unless you cheese the Dual Pyramids, or know the gimmick for the Corridor (although I ended up brute forcing by learning the turns in the hallway so I could go fast enough, so it was a pretty unique experience, Marie also despawned for some reason once?)

Really? People liked his first encounter the most? It's my least favorite. It's so unceremonious. He's just... there. That's it. He doesn't even retreat into the shadows once you catch your first glimpse of him, making you question what you saw, if you even saw anything at all. He's even brightly lit (albeit in red light, but light nonetheless). James doesn't even comment, not a single "what is that?!"

So PHead does horrible things to corpses and fellow creatures. . .and is the darkest part od James' psyche. . . 1) James should've been the MC of Shattered Memories, not Heather. 2) James and his wife were known to be extra frisky & kinky. 3) . . .what else did James do to her corpse besides hide it?
