David had it going on the 1st reunion tour. Voice was amazing. Here, like he’s trying to scream over band.
@flamecolumnАй бұрын
Spot on. Dave’s voice on the first tour after the reunion was probably the best I’ve heard. He sang very well and was taking his vocals seriously. Last tour, he sounded like an alley cat whose paw was trapped in a toaster. No mid range. Either a weird choked scream/shriek or his gravelly low sing-talk thing. He didn’t bother singing like half the lyrics. A huge middle finger to the audience.

his episode was approximately six months earlier as the original date in Tokyo was rescheduled for a later date. My wife and i had tickets and plans for the original date from Shanghai to Tokyo; POSTPONED until the rescheduled date was announced. I'm listening to Roth's performance, and I'm not sure why people were ragging on it. Because for one, he's actually singing the words to the song, and not drifting off, going elsewhere, wandering away, doing all the stuff he used to do. He's actually delivering the song as it is, with very little chatter. He's saving it for specific moments. His vibe is different than what it was 40 years ago. Which is absolutely the correct thing to do. To watch a 60+ year old man writhe around shirtless and acting like he's young would be embarrassing, and he knows that. So he calms all that down too. Yeah, the energy kind of suffers without these antics, but he's a respectable adult now. He has his moments, but they're all restrained. He's playing it smart. He's just delivering the song, and what the people want to hear. His upper range has actually improved. He's expanded it. Right at the top of his range he had power behind those notes, and I really have not heard him sing that high in his natural voice on stage or recordings. So I do believe he had done some preparation for the tour. He's not Sammy Hagar, we all know this technically. But what David has is swing, and rhythm & blues, and Duke Ellington. He's got his own unique delivery. You have no doubt who it is when he's singing. And I don't know, it's just an opinion, but I was kind of impressed by what I heard here.
