Everyone always talks about Eddie, but damn, Alex is spot on! He's never missed a beat- an epic, and incredibly technical player!
@AudioFileZ

You said it. Alex was like a more disciplined Keith Moon (is that good, I think so). I love his heavy thud sound, really visceral in the low mids, that I like to call more is more. I really think Alex just might have been the best rock and roll stickman ever. Just happened he was playing with his brother who was the greatest rock and roll guitarist ever. Kind of like being the bassist in Led Zeppelin, John Paul Jones. You'll get accolades, yet someone else kind of steals your thunder by no fault of their own.

It's astounding how Ed never lost his touch. His tone changed. But, those fingers worked as well as they did 40 years earlier. And, Alex! Come on. These two just had "it", whatever "it" is. They were two halves of the whole. Each made the other better than they were alone. The swing, man. Nothing like it.

Eddie 2004-2007 was not this Eddie or the old Eddie, he had lost his touch and control (hints of his brilliance of course were still there). Just glad that he ended his career playing his ass off and completely redeemed himself from those not so great years. And ADKOT album was an absolute stomper, with the band killing it!

@@tommurrayGTR 2004 was a disaster. I saw him several times in 07 and he was great. At that time though he was having tendon problems in his hand. So, I can see where he couldn't physically do the "Eddie" things at times and sort of cheated his way through. He had surgery in Europe, and after that he was back in form until the end with the wide stretches and crazy ascending and descending runs.

Stop hating on DLR. He is very very good at what he does, even in his late 50s here. He was an incredible singer in his day. Further, I like when the singer riffs off script at a live concert. That's what makes it entertaining. Same thing to be said for EVH, AVH, Michael Anthony/Wolfie, AND Sammy - you pay big $ for tickets to come to the live venue to hear their chops through extended playing, soloing, vocal riffs, interaction with crowd, etc on each song. It shouldn't just be about reproducing what was laid down in the studio. Finally, I appreciate SO much the talent I got to witness from all the lineups Van Halen had [DLR and Sammy]. Lots of fun over the years listening to these guys and seeing them live!

What video did you see? He was horrible. Had been since the early 90s. Off key, little movement, boring. Before anyone declares it's his age, Sammy is still partying, moving around on stage, and stays on key. Dave was always a creepy old man. He's finally grown into it. Sammy was/is a party guy that knew how to pull back just enough to party all night.

THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO "V.H.,"* that's undisputable, as the previously mentioned, showmanship that Dave brought was the "Uuuuuuhhh," needed to make them the best damn band in the land, AND FOR ME PERSONALLY... THEIR FIRST ALBUM, WAS WHEN I FINALLY FOUND MY "R-n-R" AH-HA MOMENT, LIKE YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.... I CAN LIVE NOW, BUT IF I HAD DIED RIGHT AT THAT MOMENT... I WAS OK WITH IT!!!! But foooorrrrrrr, Christ sake's, why did Dave have to turn into an instant ASSHOLE, OVERNIGHT???!!!!!!??? If he'd just been the mostly normal "D.L.R." for the rest of EVERYTHING THEY DID... I HONESTLY BELIEVE, THE FIRST MUSIC ACT TO ACHIEVE AND HOLD PERFECTION, BUT NOOOOO, HE PHUCKED IT ALL UP!!!!! Soooo, long story short, for this tour, they should have shitcanned Dave, brought Michael back in, brought Sammy back, let him handle and or share some lead vox with Wolfie, Michael and Wolfie backing, when needed, and this tour to would have been a bigger success!!!!!
