In this video we use a Curio to cut wood veneer for marquetry.
Please note: this is recommended for advanced users only as it requires a lot of trial and error, patience and time.
Thanks to Nick to providing me with some veneer samples.

Thank you so very much for your videos. You're one of the only folks doing videos on the Curio so far, and I really appreciate you doing them! The veneers came out beautifully and seem to be worth the time and effort. Now, do you have any idea when the other tools will be available? You mentioned being patient, but waiting for tools that were expected when the machine came out is difficult!

+Julie Barneson We have been told the additional accessories will be available in the next few months, I'm sorry I don't have a more accurate time frame than this. I would certainly expect them to land before Christmas. I'm looking forward to testing the etching tool.

Ohhhh;) I thought the tool for etching/engraving wood was different or that it used the regular blade. I pre ordered the larger mat and etching tool, so I'll be waiting on your video. Thank you for your super fast response AND for taking the time to do this video. It gave me hope, LOL:)

hi, thanx for the video. im really new to curio, but ive been using the cameo for some time now. anyway, did you use a deep cut blade for this project? how many base layers did you use under the cutting mat?
@GraphtecGB
@GraphtecGB 8 жыл бұрын
+MsBabbityRabbity I used the standard blade for this, the deep cut blade would not be useful in this instance as it is only for soft thick materials and as this veneer is quite dense it would stall the machine if you tried to use a high blade setting. As for the base shims: I used 2 x No.2 shims and a mat.

I have a cameo and I'm very experienced with it and the software. I've purchased a Curio (decision based mostly on this video, I love it). I've followed the instructions in this video for settings and set up. I'm using two new blades and veneer that's less than a millimeter thick. No matter what I do, or how many passes I make, the blade never cuts through the bottom of the material. It makes a nice groove in the shape I want but never finishes the job. Any suggestions? Thank you
@GraphtecGB
@GraphtecGB 8 жыл бұрын
+Chris R After sending the job once with the blades set to 1 & 2, are you resending again with the blades then set to 3 & 4? You may even need to step up again after that and send another pass with the blade on 5 & 6. Also, some veneers cut better than others, there were a couple I struggle to cut and I got the best results with anigre, so it could be that specific wood, oh and make sure it is the 0.6mm veneer, any thicker will be much more difficult to cut. I hope that helps.

+Chris R the same problem, can u help us??
@GraphtecGB
@GraphtecGB 8 жыл бұрын
+Eliza Ramz Hi, From the other comment by Chris it seems he has managed to resolve his problem by buying 0.6mm veneer, I guess his previous veneer was a little too thick. So I'd expect your problem is the veneer, it could be too dense or slightly too thick. As I mentioned in the video, some woods work better than others, maybe try a different type.

Thanks so much for posting! Just curious as to where you purchase your wood veneer from
@GraphtecGB

+kspafford1 I bought the veneer sheets from ebay, it cost around £20 for a dozen various different 0.06mm wood sheets.

Hello, Love this! Is there any way that you are aware to just "engrave" a piece of wood? I have a 2.3/8" circle that I am using for a project and want put let's say, an initial on it. Any thoughts on if I can do this?
@GraphtecGB
@GraphtecGB 8 жыл бұрын
It would be tricky to do without splintering the wood or stalling the machine because of the sharp point on the etch tool. Have you considered using a pen to write on the wood or use one of the emboss tools to deboss on to the wood? This might be worth trying to see if the effect works for your design.

Please tell me if I can create drawings or scanned drawings that are not in the Curio file
@GraphtecGB
@GraphtecGB 8 жыл бұрын
+Francisco Montanaro Yes, you can create drawings in another program and save them as a jpg, png or bmp and import that in to the Curio software, once it is imported in you can vectorize the image using the Trace tool so it is then ready for cutting.

What is the thickest 'wood' it will cut?
@GraphtecGB
@GraphtecGB 7 жыл бұрын
0.6mm is the thickest I'd recommend, and even then it can be very hit & miss depending on the type of wood.
