This is a good one for so many aspiring watercolor artists!! They learn how to mix a few easy combinations of colors, do a relatively easy graduated wash, and then they get to practice their brush skills. This is the kind of thing that makes learning watercolor fun. Thank you!

Why wouldn't you want to sign it with a pen for a gallery?

Not all, but some galleries can be a bit funny when a watercolour painting isn't signed with a pencil, so using a pen to them, may class it as mixed media. I know, to me it's daft, but it does happen. 🙄
